The Bike Library is a volunteer-run community bicycle project located at 1222 S. We repair donated bikes and check them out to the public. Bikes are priced with a deposit (ranging from $50-$300). If a bike is returned in good condition within the six-month checkout period, the deposit will be returned to the user, minus a $50 processing fee and damage to the bicycle, if any. From the Youth Garage: happy new bike day, Nader! This friend has been a dedicated participant in summer bike camps with The Neighborhood Centers for multiple seasons, and has done his own deep diving into the world of cycling online…he had expressed a Trek Madone 3.1 as his dream bike. (How many kids have identified a specific model of bike like that for their personal wishlist?!)

When this kid-sized Trek road bike was donated, Dustin knew exactly who to surprise with it. We appreciate your effort in camp and your passion for cycling, young man!

It’s a joy to tune and prep a random surprise here and there like this in between programming.

The BL IT TECH TEAM folks! These are the guys that make sure our inventory system (BLAPP) is maintained & updated, that we have hardware and internet (shout out Keystone IT!), our website stays up and running, and any general IT stuff works for our operations. They work behind the scenes and screens so the BikeLib can keep the bikes flowing easy and breezy. What a crew. Thank you.

Joe Bees one of our board members came in today for Public Bench w/ Drew Boss. He found this camo bar tape—a perfect clash for the green specialized (you never know what you’re going to find at the shop!). We’re going to be announcing since fall rides in the next week. If you haven’t given your bike some love lately bring it to Public Bench and we’ll help you get it tuned for fall riding.

Farm Cycle 4 Youth invites us to connect with our incredible agrarian community. We hope you had a blast and learned about some new local food sources!

Together, we raised $22,187 for the Bike Library and UAY’s vital youth programming! Thank you again to our lead sponsor, United Iowa Financial, and supporting sponsors, Hills Bank and New Pioneer for making this ride possible.

Joseph Cress was our paparazzi-along-the-route. Here are his images, which I think capture the openness, excitement and camaraderie of the day.
