Bradley E. Gilpin

Iowa City - Bradley Eugene Gilpin, 62, of Iowa City died on November 5, 2019 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Brad was a life-long Iowa City resident who worked for many years at Gilpin Paint & Glass and then McComas Lacina as a cabinet maker. He was a long-time member of the choir at St. Mary's Church, an avid Cubs fan, and loved tailgating for Iowa Hawkeye football. Brad always had a (bad) joke to tell, a "let me help you" attitude and his ability to use his "Gilpingenuity" to build or fix anything was legendary. Brad's love for his family, friends, and his rescue dogs knew no bounds.

Brad is survived by his wife of 42 years, Deb, daughters Alysha (Justin) Ahlf, Meghan Carter, Katie (Kirk) Ryan, Abbey (Jess Adam) Gilpin, and sons Andrew (Sarah) Gilpin and Nathan Gilpin, his mother Joan Gilpin, brothers Patrick (Sandy) Gilpin, Jay (Staci) Gilpin, and sisters Victoria Gilpin, Rebecca (Bruce) Milne, Jean Gilpin and Elizabeth Bernard, and three grandchildren, Henry and Julia Ryan and June Ahlf.

He was preceded in death by his father William Gilpin.

A Celebration of Brad's Life will be held on Friday, November 15 from 4-8 pm at the Park Lodge at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the UIHC Holden Cancer Center, Hospice Home of Johnson County (the Bird House) and Iowa City Hospice for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one of the entities listed above, or to the Iowa City Animal Shelter & Adoption Center. For more of Brad's life story, to share a thought, memory or condolence with his family, please visit the funeral home website @ www.gayandciha.com.

Class Reunion Minutes from Meeting on Jan. 18 2015

In attendance: Julie(Slay) Africa, Billie(Boren) Booth, Rex Dawson, Cindy(Hackmann) Johnston, Deb(Steege) Gilpin, Judy (Maier) Stimmel, Ginger(Wenman) Troughton

Old Business:

Date for our upcoming class 40th reunion: Friday night, August 7 and Saturday, August 8, 2015.
We have a room upstairs at The Vine on the Coralville strip reserved for Friday night at 7 pm at no charge.
For Saturday we have The North Ridge Pavilion in Coralville reserved from7am-11pm.

New Business:
We discussed different options for the dinner and Judy Stimmel volunteered to call a few caterers to get some ideas for food and prices.
We also discussed what beverages to have included in the cost with the meal and think soda, water, beer and wine is our best option. If you want mixed drinks you can byob. We will decide on a price per person later when we finalize our plans with the menu and the caterer. Last time we charged $50 a person and we hope to keep our cost around that again this time.

Activities:
Saturday daytime options: We discussed a golf outing as a possibility again. Also thought maybe canoeing or paddle boat rides out on the Iowa River by the Trueblood Center? This is a new recreational area that most of you will not have seen! If anyone has any other ideas be sure to chime in!
Addresses:
If you know of someone that has moved or changed their email please be sure to let them know of the reunion. Let me know who you contact so I can check them off my list, we can save on postage this way!
I plan on having a list of people that are not available through FB or email that I will send a postcard to in March with the reunion details.

Treasurer’s report: We had no expenses since paying for the venue in November so our balance is $1,278. We had a $50 donation a few weeks ago, thanks to a generous class mate!

Next meeting is Sunday, March 8 at 1:00 at the Java House.

Respectfully submitted by,

Deb Gilpin
