While it's HOT today, we're getting ready for the cold weather we know is just around the corner.

The Winter Clothing Donation Drive is just around the corner.

The Iowa City Police Department is once again partnering with the Consultation of Religious Communities for the annual Winter Clothing Drive to help ensure community members in need have the warm clothing and outerwear they need this winter. With colder temperatures just around the corner, we need dedicated volunteers to help make this important community effort possible.

We are collecting new or gently used coats, gloves, hats, scarves, socks, sweatshirts, snow pants, and snow boots in sizes ranging from newborn to adult.

Donations will be accepted daily at the following locations September 7 through October 9:
- Iowa City Police Department, 410 E. Washington St.
- Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St.
- Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert St.
- Mercer Park Aquatic Center, 2701 Bradford Dr.
- Iowa City Fire Station 2, 301 Emerald St.
- Iowa City Fire Station 4, 2008 N. Dubuque Rd.

🚶‍♀️ Want safer streets for everyone?

Iowa LTAP is offering a FREE two-part webinar on Pedestrian Safety Countermeasures on September 9 and 15. The training will focus on proven ways communities can make it safer for people walking, including crosswalk visibility improvements, raised crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, flashing beacons, pedestrian hybrid beacons, and traffic signal changes.

While the training is designed for public works staff and local agencies, pedestrian safety affects all of us. Whether you're walking to school, pushing a stroller, taking the dog for a walk, or simply crossing the street, the way our streets are designed matters.

Know someone who works in local transportation, planning, or public works? Share this with them! Let's keep working toward neighborhoods where everyone can get where they need to go safely. ❤️

Pocket Prairies in your yard

Thanks to a collaboration between Johnson County and the Johnson County Master Gardeners of Iowa, homeowners in Johnson County can apply for this free program to add pocket prairies to their landscapes.

Participants receive technical guidance and enough pollinator plants to establish a 10’ by 10’ pollinator garden. The plants provide habitat and food for insects and other animals, while the deep roots improve soil health, helping rainwater infiltrate and keeping pollutants out of creeks and streams.
