يا له من يوم جميل قضيناه في حضرة حي وندرفل وستسايد. تعثرت البداية بفعل المطر الصباحي ولكن سرعان ما تقاطر الحضور من سكان الحي من الكبار والصغار. فعلت موسيقى محمد السيد فعل السحر في الحضور الذين تجاوبوا مع الايقاعات المتنوعة. الشيف الصادق قدم للحضور وجبة جميلة نالت الاستحسان. كان حضور بنات مندي رائعا واستمتع الجميع بالشاي والقهوة وأنواع الطعام التي جادت بها أيادي أهل الحي السخية. شكرا لفريق كونفلونس الذي أقام منبرا للتعريف بمحتويات الخطة الاستراتيجية الشاملة لبلدية أيوا سيتي وكان حضور سناتور الينور ليفين أنيقا تعرف به سكان وندرفل وستسايد على ممثلتهم الانتخابية. سعد الحضور بمشاركة جاك وفريق الانتاج الاعلامي لبلدية أيوا سيتي وكذلك فريق اعلام ريسفك فيما تجاوب السكان مع اللقاءات المصورة التي اجريت. الشكر الجزيل لمنظمة النبيرهود سنترز وكنيسة كريست ذا كينغ ومنظمة ريسفك وتشيلان من بلدية أيوا سيتي الذين ساعدت مساهماتهم في اخراج اليوم. الشكر لكافة سكان حي وندرفل وستسايد على تفاعلهم الواسع وعلى مساهماتهم التي أعطت الحفل هذا الرونق البهيج.
What a joyful day
The day may have started with a little rain, but it turned into fantastic celebration at Wonderful Westside!

Neighbors of all ages came out to enjoy great food, music, tea, coffee, and wonderful company. Mohamed El-Sayed kept the energy high with amazing music, Chef Al-Sadiq served a delicious meal, and neighbors shared their generosity through the many tasty dishes they brought.

The neighborhood interacted with Confluence team sharing information about the Iowa City Comprehensive Plan. Thank you to Elinor Levin who stopped by and met with neighbors. WWNA residents appreciated Jack and the Iowa City media team, along with the RSFIC media team, for capturing the stories of the neighborhood.

A big thank you to Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County, Christ the King Church, RSFIC, and the City of Iowa City for helping make the event possible.

Most importantly, thank you to all the Wonderful Westside residents. Your participation, warmth, and community spirit made the day truly special. ❤️

We can’t thank Professor Philip Combiths, from the UI Linguistics enough for the wonderful discussion session on multilingualism and motivations for children to love their heritage language while becoming proficient in multiple languages.

It was a thoughtful and engaging discussion, with participating parents sharing ideas, questions, and personal experiences. The stories and insights from parents made the conversation especially rich and meaningful.

A big thank you as well to the Wonderful Westside team for organizing this event, providing a delicious meal, and offering childcare for attending parents. Your support helped make the event welcoming and accessible for everyone! 🙏🌷

نعجز عن تقديم الشكر إلى بروفيسور فيليب كومبيث، أستاذ اللغويات بجامعة أيوا، على الندوة القيّمة والممتعة التي تناولت قضايا واستراتيجيات تشجيع الأطفال على حب لغتهم الأم وإتقان لغات متعددة لما لذلك من فوائد عديدة.

كان نقاشًا ثريًا وهادفًا، شارك فيه الحضور بآرائهم وتجاربهم، كما أسهمت تجارب الأمهات والآباء في إثراء الحوار وإضفاء بُعد عملي مميز على النقاش.

كما نتقدم بخالص الشكر لفريق وندرفل وستسايد على إتاحة هذه الفرصة الرائعة، وعلى الضيافة الكريمة والوجبة اللطيفة، إضافة إلى توفير خدمة رعاية الأطفال، مما سهّل مشاركة الآباء والأمهات في الندوة والاستفادة منها.

كانت أمسية جميلة مساء الأمس في ضيافة وندرفل ويست سايد وفريق القيادة المتميز المكوّن من الأخوات هند، إشراقة، بدور، وغادة، اللاتي بذلن جهدًا رائعًا بالتنسيق مع الأستاذة هنادي الشاذلي لإخراج هذا الحوار الهادئ والهادف.

شهد اللقاء تفاعلًا كبيرًا من الحضور، حيث تناول الحوار العديد من القضايا المهمة، من أبرزها التكيف والتعايش في المهجر، والتشابك الثقافي والهوية، وتأثير تجربة الاغتراب والمجتمع الجديد على الأسرة.

كما أبرز النقاش أهمية التعاون والدعم المتبادل بين أبناء الجالية، وضرورة تجاوز الخلافات والعمل بروح الفريق لتحقيق الأهداف المشتركة. وأشار المشاركون أيضًا إلى أهمية الجهد التربوي وتعزيز العلاقة مع الأطفال والأسرة، والحرص على التواجد الفعّال في حياة الأبناء، بما يسهم في حمايتهم من الشعور بالانعزال أو الفراغ.

ومن بين المحاور المقترحة للحوارات القادمة:

مناقشة التحديات الأسرية، مثل تأثير الشاشات وأساليب التربية الحديثة.
استكشاف سبل التكامل والاندماج الإيجابي في المجتمع الأمريكي مع الحفاظ على الهوية والثقافة.
تنظيم جلسات توعوية وإرشادية للأهالي.
تخصيص أنشطة تشجع الأطفال والأسر على زيارة المكتبات وتعزيز ثقافة القراءة لدى النشء.

كانت أمسية ثرية بالأفكار والتجارب، وأكدت أهمية استمرار مثل هذه اللقاءات التي تعزز التواصل والتفاهم بين أفراد المجتمع.

It was a wonderful evening yesterday, hosted by WWNA and the outstanding leadership team; Hind, Ishraga, Bodour, and Ghada, who made remarkable efforts, in coordination with Hanadi Al-Shazly, to organize this thoughtful and meaningful discussion.

The gathering witnessed strong engagement from attendees, and the conversation covered several important topics, most notably adaptation and integration in the diaspora, cultural interconnectedness and identity, and the impact of the immigrant experience and a new society on the family.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of cooperation and mutual support among members of the community, as well as the need to move beyond disagreements and work in a spirit of teamwork to achieve common goals. Participants emphasized the importance of educational and parenting efforts, strengthening relationships with children and family members, and maintaining an active presence in children's lives to help protect them from feelings of isolation or emptiness.

Among the proposed topics for future discussions were:

Addressing family challenges, such as the impact of screen time and modern parenting approaches.
Exploring ways to achieve positive integration into American society while preserving cultural identity and heritage.
Organizing educational and guidance sessions for parents.
Creating activities that encourage children and families to visit libraries and foster a culture of reading among young people.

It was an enriching evening filled with valuable ideas and experiences, reaffirming the importance of continuing such gatherings that strengthen communication, understanding, and connection within the community.

استمتعنا بقضاء وقت جميل بين رحلة البص العام أيوا سيتي وفي ضيافة فريق عمل مكتبة أيوا سيتي العامة. الشكر الجزيل لكيلي شنايدر منسقة النقل العام بالكاونتي وهايدي كوتشا ورفاقها في مكتبة أيوا علي استضافتهم لأسر وأطفال حي وندرفل وستسايد. كذلك نخص بالشكر تشيلان ههارينجتون على الجهد والدعم الكبير الذي ساهم في إخراج الفعالية.

صعد الآباء والأمهات والأطفال من محطة البص أمام بنك جرين ستيت كريدت يونيون وجوار فير واي والتقوا بكيلي التي قدمت معلومات هامة حول نظام النقل العام في المنطقة. بعد الوصول إلى المحطة الرئيسية في داونتاون توجهت المجموعة إلى مبنى المكتبة العامة حيث قضينا وقتا ممتعا تعرفت فيه الأسر على العديد من خدمات ومرافق المكتبة.

الشكر موصول كذلك إلى فريق قيادة حي وندرفل وستسايد على تنسيق الفعالية واخراجها في هذا الثواب الرائع.

We had such a wonderful time on our Iowa City bus trip and visit to the Iowa City Public Library! 🚍📚

Parents and kids boarded the bus from the stop near GreenState Credit Union and Fareway, where Kelly shared helpful information about the local public transportation system. After arriving downtown, we headed to the library and enjoyed a great time exploring its many services and spaces together.

A huge thank you to Kelly Schneider, the County’s Public Transportation Coordinator, and to Heidi Kutcha and the amazing library team for hosting families and children from Wonderful Westside neighborhood.

A huge gratitude to T'Shailyn Harrington, The City Neighborhood Coordinator for the effort and support provided for the activity.

Special thanks as well to Wonderful Westside leadership team for organizing such a successful and meaningful event!
