tion's dedication and service to Iowa City was recognized and honored with naming the grounds surrounding the city-owned Ashton House, 820 Park Road, the Project GREEN Gardens. Through the years, the all-volunteer Project GREEN effort has grown to include public school grounds. Our organization celebrated 55 years of service in 2023. You can help:
You or your business can make a gift to support Project GREEN’s efforts in two ways:
• GREEN Fund – Supports operating costs and new projects. Mail your check c/o City of Iowa City, 410 E. Washington Street, Iowa City, IA 52240.

• Project GREEN Endowment Fund – Invested for the long-term to create an ongoing source of interest income to support maintenance obligations in perpetuity. Individuals and businesses receive a 25 percent Endow Iowa Tax Credit. Our Story

Since launching in 1968, the nonprofit Project GREEN (Grow to Reach Environmental Excellence Now) organization has funded more than $2 million for public landscape improvement and beautification projects. Our mission continues: Enhance and beautify green spaces, parks, major entryways, roadsides, riverfront and median parkways. Through the years, the all-volunteer Project GREEN effort has grown to include public school grounds. In 2018, our organization celebrated 50 years of service. Also in October 2018, Project GREEN encouraged the Iowa City Council to proclaim rudbeckia the city’s flower to attract butterflies, bees and songbirds. The species, commonly called coneflowers and black-eyed-susans, also reflects the University of Iowa’s colors, black and gold.
