A Pool Table with Provenance: It's been a prominent fixture in the old Sharon High School ever since anyone can remember, a relic of the glory days of the Sharon community center and Fellowship Masonic Lodge after the school shut down in 1930. The "Old Gal" is looking for a new home. With upcoming renovations and multiple moves projected for the table, it would be a major investment to sustain. The lodge and the Friends group non-profit board came to the realization that we can't afford to restore or keep moving it around for renovations or for space programming when the building opens back up. Sometimes you have to think in terms of the future and "keep our eyes on the ball" so to speak. A lot of thoughtful discussion went into the decision. At 5' X 9', nearly the largest pool table made, it would take a minimum of 15' x 19' of open space to be able to play. That's nearly 300 square feet, or 1/3rd of each of the three 900 sq. ft. open programming spaces in the building. At 1,600 lbs., a pool table like this can't simply be taken apart and moved up and down steps between the spaces easily. We've done a lot of careful research, both near and far. It is a Brunswick Balke Collender Monarch Cushion table made in the 1920s. It would take a very narrow and specialized collector (and rich one) to want to restore the Old Gal. Given the condition, even the professionals suggested Craig's List and Facebook Marketplace. But before we do, we thought we'd share this first on our own FB page and see if any followers have other ideas for the Old Gal. The old original wooden ball rack and cue rack to go with it. And the celluloid balls and cue sticks! Here's a few images of the "Old Gal." Please feel free to share this around. Contact info on 1st and last images comments.

Oh, the JOY! We wanted to update you on progress on our many restoration and improvement projects at the Historic Sharon High School and Community Center. Four years ago, we embarked on a very ambitious $.5 million dollar Capital Campaign. We have already raised and invested $250,000 for the project to date. Just from our fundraisers this year, at local restaurants, the Yard Sale days, Summit Hill Backyard Music and other events, we have raised over $13,000 with your help. We have been busy with ADA restrooms, plumbing, electrical, new walls, the new basement space and fulfilling the dream of opening new Third Space and placemaking activities! We are halfway there! And we are busy applying for grants and continuing our fundraising efforts. So many have helped, and we already have some great partners helping plan for reopening the space for community gatherings, arts and entertainment, performances, writers' workshops and so much more. Thanks to all of you who have helped with this wonderful project. Here's just a few images of progress made with your help, and a couple throwback photos.
