What if your 2-year-old started telling you about the day he died?

Not a monster under the bed. Not a bad dream.

A plane crash.

James Leininger began having terrifying nightmares about being a pilot whose plane was shot down by the Japanese. Then came the details—a ship, WWII aircraft, names and memories his family believed he shouldn't have known.

His skeptical father started digging.

Eventually, that search led to a real U.S. Navy pilot named James M. Huston Jr., who was killed near Iwo Jima in 1945.

And that's where this story gets REALLY interesting. 👀

The case has been studied by researchers, challenged by skeptics, defended by other researchers—and decades later, people are still arguing over what actually happened.

Was James somehow remembering a life he had already lived?

Or is there another explanation?

Our newest API blog takes a deep dive into the strange case of James Leininger, the evidence behind the story, and the questions that still remain.

NEW BLOG POST
👽 Apparently, UFOs aren't just for conspiracy forums anymore.

Congress wants **46 specific UAP videos** reportedly held by the Pentagon. More government files have dropped in 2026. Military encounters are being documented. Decades-old reports are becoming public.

And yes… some of what’s in them sent us straight down the rabbit hole. 🛸😂

But before we start hanging the **WELCOME TO EARTH** banner, there’s a BIG difference between *unexplained* and *extraterrestrial.*

Our newest API blog digs into what’s actually been released, what the government says it can explain, what it still can’t…and why Congress keeps asking for more.

History. Adventure. Mystery.

This weekend, the API team explored the historic Donner Summit railroad tunnels, hiking nearly 4 miles through one of California's most fascinating landmarks.

Built in the 1860s as part of the first transcontinental railroad, these tunnels were carved through solid Sierra granite under some of the harshest conditions imaginable. Thousands of workers endured dangerous terrain, brutal winters, avalanches, and explosive blasting to complete a route that forever changed transportation across the United States. Many paid the ultimate price during its construction.

Today, the tunnels stand as a remarkable piece of American history and, according to countless local legends and eyewitness accounts, one of the Sierra Nevada's most intriguing paranormal locations.

Between the breathtaking mountain scenery, vibrant graffiti, and historic tunnels, our team did a couple brief investigation sessions, documenting the atmosphere and experiencing the location firsthand.

Whether you're drawn by the engineering, the history, the legends, or the possibility of the unexplained, Donner Summit is a place that leaves a lasting impression.
Have you ever explored the Donner Summit tunnels?

We'd love to hear about your experience.

Where should we explore next?

🚨 NEW BLOG POST!
We don't walk through the door with a pre-written story. 🔦

We believe the truth is more interesting than any Hollywood legend. That’s why every case starts with one rule: Keep an open mind.

Before we look for the paranormal, we look for the ordinary. From old wiring to settling foundations, we clear away the noise so we can focus on what’s truly unexplained.

What an incredible day in Auburn, CA!
A few days ago, members of American Paranormal Investigations had the opportunity to join the talented team from the show "Haunted Discoveries" for a full day of filming, history, & storytelling.
It was an amazing experience collaborating with fellow investigators, filmmakers, and storytellers who share the same passion for preserving history and exploring the unexplained.

A huge thank you to the Haunted Discoveries crew for their hospitality, professionalism, and dedication to bringing these stories to life. We can't wait to see their new documentary, "Ghosts of the Gold Rush" this fall!

We're grateful for the friendships made, the knowledge shared, and the opportunity to represent API alongside such a fantastic group of people!

Most of the time, the things that frighten us have perfectly normal explanations.

A loose vent.
Faulty wiring.
A settling house.
A forgotten memory.

But every now and then...

We find something that keeps us asking questions.

That's why we investigate.

Have you ever experienced something you couldn't explain?

🎙 THINGS THAT AREN'T EVPs

One of the biggest misconceptions in paranormal investigation is that every unexplained sound on a recording is evidence of the paranormal.

The truth is, many audio anomalies have perfectly natural explanations.

Radio interference, investigators talking in another room, environmental noises, and even audio pareidolia can all create sounds that seem significant at first listen.

That's why evidence should never be judged by a single clip alone.

At API, we review recordings carefully, compare notes, examine environmental conditions, and look for corroborating evidence before drawing conclusions.

Good investigations aren't about proving a haunting.

They're about finding the truth.

Have you ever heard a sound that you couldn't explain?
