Sunday Soups

Sunday Soups Sunday Soups is a soup kitchen that is open to anyone and everyone who would like a free meal. It's the last two Sunday's of every month from 5pm-6:30pm.

The First Presbyterian Church in Iola, KS is home to a new ministry entitled, “Sunday Soups.” The ministry of Sunday Soups is essentially a soup kitchen that is open every Sunday from 5pm until 7pm and offers a free meal to everyone. There’s no catch, there are no hoops to jump through, and there aren’t any requirements to attend a church service. To receive soup a person simply has to let us know

that they’d like a free meal and we will serve them. Sunday Soups began as one person’s idea to offer a free meal after seeing a dire need for such a program within our community. A group of people met every week starting in July and worked together to plan this ministry. This group was comprised of several members of The First Presbyterian Church as well as a few members of the community that also supported the idea of Sunday Soups. This group worked tirelessly to make the idea a reality. We set an optimistic date of November 2nd to serve our first meal, and a practice run through with the church congregation October 26th. We brought to life this simple idea in less than four months. Sunday Soups is a ministry that brings together people of all social classes, economic statuses, and religions. Our hope is that Sunday Soups will bring together people within our community and create a sense of comradery. After all, this is a ministry that is bringing people’s differences together and sharing those differences while enjoying a bowl of soup.
