Today, Stem In The Rockaways partnered with Rise for Robotics to give local youth a hands-on robotics experience!

Using Sphero and LEGO NXT robotics, over 20 learners practiced coding, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and improving their designs through trial and error. Every challenge became an opportunity to learn, adjust, and try again.

Stem In The Rockaways had the pleasure of partnering with Queen Royal Priest Hood Inc. for an engaging coding and robotics experience.

Young participants learned how to program robots, navigate custom-designed courses, troubleshoot their code, and collaborate with their peers. The activity encouraged problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and persistence—all while making learning fun.

We are grateful to Queen Royal Priest Hood Inc. for the opportunity to work together and expose more young people to technology and STEM education.

FRANC is back again this year to host its annual Youth Summit at the Rockaway YMCA alongside partnering organizations from across the Rockaway community.

The “Rock & Wave” theme represents the strength, resilience, and spirit of Rockaway Youth. The “rock” symbolizes stability, unity, and standing strong through challenges, while the “wave” represents movement, creativity, growth, and the energy of our community. Together, the theme reflects the balance between being grounded in who we are and continuing to push forward toward new opportunities and success.

Stem In The Rockaways gave each child a caterpillar, at our spring break event, that will soon transform into a butterfly. The kit included everything they needed food, a habitat, and detailed instruction so they could care for their new living companions with confidence.

This hands-on experience sparked real curiosity, with kids asking thoughtful questions about how to support and nurture the caterpillars. Now, they’re off on an exciting journey, witnessing the wonder of metamorphosis and raising a new generation of butterflies.
