Dear Coaching Staff & Inverness Little League families,
On Monday 9/21/26, the Inverness Little League Board was made aware of a new Florida law that requires Level 2 background checking for all coaches involved in youth sports across the state. We are taking active steps to get into full compliance with this law. Our coaches have been Level 1 background checked, as they always have been, but we must also add Level 2 background checks as of this season. It is of utmost importance that we are protecting the children on and around the field and we continue to make their safety our priority. Moving forward this process will be added to our pre-season requirements alongside, Level 1 checks (required by Little League International), and training courses.
We are actively pursuing our ORI number through the state of Florida. We applied for the number, received confirmation that the application has been received, and have provided final signatures to obtain this number. Once our ORI number is returned to us, we will have the opportunity to pull Level 2 reports for the many coaches who already possess those checks.
We have also been in contact with a mobile fingerprinting business. As soon as we have the ORI number we can be added to their schedule and will have an event where we will have all coaches not yet in compliance come and get their Level 2 fingerprinting completed. Once the information is submitted, typical turnaround time is 1-3 days for clearance. Our goal as a Board is to complete this process as quickly as possible. Inverness Little League will be covering the cost of these background checks at this time.
In the meantime, teams cannot practice under the direction of Inverness Little League coaches or managers. The city will leave the Whispering Pines fields open to the public for use so parents who would like their players to continue working on skills, under their own liability, insurance, schedule, and direction, can take them and spend quality time as a family. Please be respectful of the hard work the city employees are putting in and refrain from using any fields that are lined. Every effort will be made to reschedule any games that are missed as a result of this decision.
Thank you for your patience as we try and get this issue corrected! We apologize for any inconvenience this causes and for any frustration this causes our players and families!
Sincerely,
Rob Mattull (League President)
& Brittany Wemhoener-Cuite (League VP)
