Troop 457 is boy-run, camps each month, and attends summer camp each year. The troop is dedicated to instilling scout values and building character and emphasizes leadership and self-reliance. Scouts learn essential skills through advancements and study diverse fields through the merit badge program.

What did you do this morning? 🚨

Troop 457 spent the morning volunteering alongside Citrus County CERT as “victims” in their mass casualty training exercise.

Our Scouts had a great time, and got a firsthand look at how the skills they learn through Scouting can be put to use in a real emergency. It was a great opportunity to learn, serve, and see some incredible emergency-response work up close.

A huge THANK YOU to the CERT team for including Troop 457 and for the amazing work they do to prepare our community. We’re proud to serve alongside you and look forward to our next opportunity to help!

🚨 Volunteers Needed! CERT Mass Casualty Training

Scout Troop 457 will be participating this Saturday as volunteers in a Citrus County Sheriff’s Office CERT Mass Casualty Training Event, and we can use even more Scout and adult volunteers!

This is a great opportunity for both youth and adults to participate in an important community emergency-preparedness exercise and help our local first responders train for a large-scale emergency.

⏰ Arrive: 8:45 AM — Event begins at 9:00 AM
📍 Meeting Location: Behind the Sheriff’s EOC
3549 Saunders Way, Lecanto, FL 34461
👉 Look for the flag by the road.

What to Wear & Bring
👖 Pants — comfortable and appropriate for outdoor activity
👟 Older sneakers or boots — expect to get dirty
👕 T-shirt that you don't mind getting dirty
💧 Water bottle
🦟 Bug spray
☀️ Be prepared to spend time outdoors

If you're available and you have not yet told your Patrol Leader, please join us! The more volunteers we have, the more realistic and valuable the training will be for our emergency responders.

Scouting is camping, knots and so much more.

The Scouting program is about building young people into community leaders, confident adults, and the people we want leading our communities into the future.

Just this week, Troop 457 spent the day with County Judge Bruce Carney. The day was filled with eye-opening experiences and a deeper understanding of civic responsibility and what it means to serve your community.

Tonight, we held our weekly troop meeting. And while the Scouts were learning skills, tying knots and working toward advancement, something even more important was happening.

The older Scouts were teaching the younger Scouts.

They weren’t just demonstrating how to do something. They were learning how to communicate, how to lead, how to be patient, how to take responsibility and how to help someone else succeed.

That’s the real magic of Scouting.

The skills matter. The camping matters. The badges matter.

But the growth matters more.

Because someday, these Scouts won’t just be the ones following directions. They’ll be the ones giving them. They’ll be coaching the next generation, serving on boards, leading businesses, volunteering in their communities and making decisions that shape the future.

Scouting isn’t just preparing young people for tomorrow. It’s preparing the leaders who will make tomorrow better.
