Last week IAFF local 5251 and IAFF Local S6 partnered to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), during the annual “Fill The Boot” campaign. We were able to raise over $1500 for the MDA. Thank you to everyone who helped out!

Your IAFF Local 5251 members attended “Dash’s Magic Wheelchair Reveal” a custom-designed Halloween costume, built around a wheelchair by Magic Wheelchair. It’s Star Wars themed, Dash’s favorite; Dash is a local kid with muscular dystrophy. This event was put on by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and partners from the Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota United. Special thanks to Elizabeth Nelson MDA/IAFF District 5 coordinator for bringing this together.

October is Fill the Boot campaign to support MDA. You can donate where firefighters are “filling the boot” or on the MDA website.

This morning your Inver Grove Heights Local 5251 firefighters were out conducting boat training. Emergencies on the river are one of many things we train for!

Today we remember all of those who lost their lives on 9/11. As we reflect upon the 25th anniversary, we honor the courage and selflessness of all the first responders, as well as those who helped others in the following weeks. May we never forget.

With the current heat wave, IAFF Local 5251 encourages all to limit their outdoor exposure as much as possible. If working or spending time in these temperatures is unavoidable, please ensure you stay properly hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Lastly, be sure to know the signs and symptoms of both heat exhaustion and heat stroke, so you are aware of how recognize heat related emergencies in those around you.

Recently, firefighters responded to a call from a concerned citizen about ducks being trapped in a drain. Firefighters arrived and were able to rescue eight baby ducks, safely uniting them with their mother.
