This July Minnesota’s 17th annual Open Your Heart Challenge begins. In 2025 food shelves in Minnesota reported more than 9 million visits, setting a new record for the fourth consecutive year.
The Open Your Heart Summer Challenge Grants (OYH) provide participating food shelves in Minnesota with a matched grant proportional to the food shelves’ fundraising activities throughout the moth of July. Koochiching County Food Access (KCFA) is again participating this year. OYH’s Summer Challenge aims to raise critical funds KCFA needs to continue feeding our neighbors.
When school is out, food shelf demand peaks, and at the same time food shelf donations dip to their lowest. OYH’s Summer Challenge bridges this gap by increasing awareness of local food shelves and harnessing the power of collective giving by providing matching grant opportunities so that households have the support they need during the hungriest months of the year.
There are several ways to assist Koochiching County Food Access in fundraising for the July Open Your Heart Challenge

KCFA would like to thank the postal workers as well as all of the community who participated in the Postal fund raiser. There were 545 # of food left by mail boxes, that our dedicated postal delivery folks picked up and delivered to us. ❤️
