Remember Fiesta and her litter of 11 kittens? Well, Miss Belle and her 10 siblings have all been spayed or neutered and their adoptions are now final!!
The Borderland Humane Society would like to give a huge shout out for the continued support of Dr. Taylor and Dr. McGonigal. The vet techs that traveled from Grand Rapids to help and the volunteers from Rainy Lake Medical Center for lending a helping hand.

Spring is here!! Prevent unplanned litters!
Please contact your veterinarian to have your pet spayed or neutered.. It is part of being a responsible pet parent!

Why we encourage spay and neuter.

We have all seen these illustrations…
They seem exaggerated right?
How can that be possible?
Let’s break down the numbers together!

Last fall, Fiesta came to us, just over a year old and heavily pregnant.
She soon gave birth to 11…. YES… 11 teeny tiny adorable kittens.

Of those 11 kittens, 8 are female.

- If momma hadn’t been rescued and brought to the BHS…. 4 weeks after giving birth, she could become pregnant again.
- If she had, in 65 days, she could potentially have another 11 kittens.
- And a month after that.. those original 8 baby girls (would be 4 months old) could also become pregnant.
- If they are as fertile as their Momma… that would be Momma’s new 11 plus her female kittens’ 11

That is 110 KITTENS IN 6 MONTHS .. And it all starts with the 1 Momma.

BUT… This momma was rescued. She has been spayed And her kittens will also be spayed/neutered before their adoptions become final.

HELP STOP THE CYCLE.

Happy Friday Borderland!!! It’s a winter wonderland out there and Bolt….. is loving it!!

Such a sweet puppy. His coat is sooo soft!🥰
He is 7 months old and about 50 pounds. He has learned sooo much in the short time since he came to us. Already playing fetch and sitting… and even getting close to sit pretty.
… With treats of course…
