In regards to a recent Facebook post made regarding Ingram Little League:
We as the little league board set the rules for field use. Our fields were completely wiped out and new grass was installed January 29th. Through Steve Caraway , owner of Texas Multi-Chem - who has been building fields 35 + years, we were given strict guidelines of how to bring the fields to maturity throughout the years, especially this first year. So, we decided as a board to lock up the fields and voted to have a board member or trusted coaches on site while it was being used. If we want to have nice fields next year and subsequent years, they have to be taken care of. We are a privately owned complex, and we don’t get city or county help to maintain the property. It’s on us.
When kids show up unsupervised and cause damage to the property; the board has the responsibility to protect it and we voted to lock it up.
As for the practice side of it, we have 29 teams who all wanted to practice and play games, even though the completion of the fields was later than we hoped and were not ready. It’s a false expectation that new fields can handle that type of use. We are so grateful that our flood destroyed fields have been rebuilt to a higher quality than it was before. This was not the year to use and abuse. We are sorry that some people don’t understand that. So, yes teams have to practice other places, but not the parking lot. The high school opened up their fields for our use, as well as other city parks.
The person who wanted to post all this on Facebook was a board member who voted yes about locking up the complex. Trying to get sympathy from people who have no idea of the facts is crazy. If you didn’t like that - why vote yes - why not question it at the board meeting.
We are grateful for everyone that has spent countless hours working hard for the benefit of everyone.
The second topic this person decided to blast on Facebook is about the All-Stars. First, the All Star manager is voted on by input from coaches and approved by the board. The manager has the responsibility and authority to choose his assistant coaches. Players are selected from season performance, evaluations, and attitude. Then the manager and his coaches try and pick the best team they can to have the best chance to compete. Not every kid will make it and not every parent will be happy with the selections. That is life and it’s not always fair.
The board becomes involved when there is a concern for the safety of the child or a situation that may arise that could be detrimental to the league.
Once it has been discussed with all involved, a resolution is made. We regret that a board member has decided to air his negative views about a situation that he does not know all the facts.
We appreciate all the positive support from our little league family and it saddens us that a disgruntled person wants to tear it down.
Sincerely,
Mark Hensley , President
