General information
On May 25, 2010, Paula Henderson’s only child Leeban “Lee” Adan was killed at age 20. The loss of Ms. Henderson's child led her to become involved in saving lives by becoming involved in violence prevention and education. In 2013, tragedy struck again, claiming the lives of a close family friend –Trevor Robinson, age 22, in August and again in December when her nephew Ronald Henderson, age 34, was killed in Pennsylvania. Following these tragedies, Paula became even more determined not to let her son’s death be in vain, instead of giving up on life, she chose to take action. In October 2013, Paula established the Los Angeles Chapter of Mothers In Charge. Mothers In Charge (MIC) is a grass roots organization founded in Philadelphia, PA by Dorothy Johnson-Speight after her son was killed over a parking space dispute. The goal of Mothers In Charge is to become a national organization whose mission focuses on violence prevention through education and intervention for our children, young adults, families and education of our youth. MIC has chapters in Kansas City, MI, Atlantic City, NJ, Brooklyn, NY, Harrisburg PA, San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA. We work with law enforcement, clergy, schools and government agencies to reduce violence and promote peace and healing.
