Lady Minnie Shaw was the fantastic, foresighted chapter organizer, along with the twelve community leaders, established Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated in this community. Inglewood Chapter was chartered December 3, 1977 at the now non-existent Airport Park Hotel across from
the Forum, becoming the 34th chapter in the organization. The twelve Charter Members included: Dr. Margaret Arnold, Gloria Brown, Elaine Cummings, Laura Farwell, Carmen Goodman, Alice Grigsby, Demeylene Henry, M. Elaine McCrumby, Lavern McField, Gertrude Narcisse, Dr. Rosemary Phillips and Minnie Shaw. On that same evening, the Inglewood Chapter of Top Teens was also chartered in a moving ceremony. More than 200 persons were in attendance which included the then National President Lady Faye Bryant and Lady Billie Ware our chartering National Area VI Director. Overs the years, Inglewood Chapter has actively participated in many initiatives and programs that are engrained in the community's history: Beautification Plots - Hillcrest in front of the main post office and a plot at the corner of Manchester and Van Ness for many years; support of the Inglewood Senior Villa and currently the Westchester Villa Assisted Living Facility. Top Teens sponsored and executed several Healthy Choices workshops - national initiative. Inglewood Chapter was among the first organizations to "Adopt A Highway" along the 105 Freeway. Provides opportunities for wholesome development of youth through activities that will enhance educational, social, moral, spiritual, cultural and economic development. Senior Citizens
Supplies information and assistance in the promotion of wholesome and meaningful lives for senior citizens, and leadership to assist local senior citizens with empowerment techniques leading to increased advocacy of issues that impact their lives. Status of Women
Enhances the status of women by helping to identify ways of utilizing the time, talents, skills and total resources of women. Community Beautification
Creates and implements projects which enhance the quality of life and help preserve the physical beauty of our environment by providing a series of activities designed to emphasize the importance of a clean, green environment. Community Partnership
Creates structure for the formation of community partnerships that simultaneously meet the goals of Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated by ensuring excellence, flexibility and accountability by engaging in mutually collaborative arrangements with corporate sponsors, governmental entities and other community organizations in addressing issues of concerns for youth and adults.
