Join us tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. in the Walker Convocation Center lobby as we celebrate the legacy of Earl Lloyd, West Virginia State legend and trailblazer as the first African American to play in an NBA game.

On the anniversary of his passing, we’ll reflect on his impact on WVSU, the NBA, and generations of student‑athletes. All students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome.

We're honored to celebrate the 75th anniversary of WVSU alum Earl Lloyd helping to break the color barrier in the NBA, a landmark moment in which a Yellow Jacket was among the first black players to appear in an NBA game.

Earlier this month, Men’s Basketball Head Coach Bryan Poore and Vice President for University Advancement Trey Jones represented WVSU at the inaugural NBA Pioneers Classic in Boston. During a special on-court check presentation, the NBA launched a new partnership with WVSU that will provide funding for student scholarships and athletics support and presented a $75,000 gift in that effort!
