$50,000 closer to making a big 💦

To the team at Variety - the Children's Charity of Iowa, thank you for visiting our community in person, diving into the needs of this project and believing in our vision, investing in our community, and helping us create a safe and inclusive space that will bring joy to many children and families for generations to come.

If you’re not familiar with the Variety program or what they do, we strongly encourage you to read about them. They aim to serve the most at-risk and underprivileged children, or those living with special needs who lack access and opportunity to adaptive and inclusive spaces. Together we are bridging gaps and building a better place for children - who are our future.

Today we celebrate an amazingly beautiful soul that left way too soon but his impact will be felt for lifetimes to come.

Maximillion came into this world on his own terms and for the first 13 months gave us a run for our money. He was smiling and happy...unless he wasn't...and then figuring it out became a challenge. One day everything clicked and he was the most active, happy, loving and friendly toddler that anyone had ever seen.

I wonder sometimes how much he might have changed over the years, but I know that deep down I don't think much would have other than his intelligence and growth. His spirit was unmatched and I know that the toddler that knew no strangers would have only continued into the 9 year old that was friends with kids and adults alike.

Today please help us celebrate Maximillion. Reach out to an old friend, make a new one, compliment a stranger and be sure to eat all the ice cream. Happy 9th birthday to our forever Maximillion.

The community support we receive as our message and mission continues to spread is amazing.

Thank you to Simpson Women's Basketball for including the foundation as a recipient from your 50/50 golf raffle this past weekend.

Each week we have meetings that serve as checkpoints for progress and momentum. ➡️ Over the last couple of weeks we’ve had some very important ones and we wish we could share all of them.

📐This week we’re excited to be meeting with a civil engineering firm that has helped many other communities we spoke with design and build their splash pads.

📍This step is critical in connecting current vendor concepts and splash pad ideas to site-specific feasibility and design entirety (bringing in peripheral structures like shade pavilions or bathrooms, sidewalks and supporting infrastructure to architectural diagrams). This will provide us with biddable material to fine tune construction costs.

Working with a civil engineer will also help drive some informed mechanical decision making as well. ⚖️

💙🧡$9 FOR MAXIMILLION’S 9TH BIRTHDAY

We are overwhelmed with gratitude. The donations we’ve received through Maximillion’s birthday fundraiser have officially helped push us PAST $70,000 toward his memorial splash pad! 🥹💙

And we’re not stopping yet. We’re going to keep this fundraiser going right up until his birthday. Every donation, every share, every encouraging message is helping us turn the unimaginable loss of our boy into something beautiful for children and families in our community.

Many times we find ourselves in conversations with members of the community who’ve never had the fortune to experience a splash pad, so they don’t always understand what exactly it is or how to differentiate them from a pool. They’ll reference things like tot pools or wading pools and shallow water, or even lifeguards. 🛟

This is part of what we 💕love💕about this amenity. It is a giant sprinkler that is safe for everyone! It can be called a spray park, or pad for splashing, but there is *N🚫* standing water, no risk of a child drowning, and no lifeguards needed.

For parents, including grandparents, guardians and caregivers, it can be an afternoon trip or a short break full of fun for the kids without the admission cost, without adults needing suits or sunblock and without the stress of constantly hovering close by weak swimmers in a pool.

We’ve contacted many surrounding communities who have both pools and spray parks to gather lessons learned and they’ve shared with us that they see no decline in their pool use given this type of amenity serves a completely different demographic and purpose.
