Should Christians date non-Christians?

It’s not just about whether they’re a good person.

Who you date matters because the person you marry will help shape how you handle everything. Marriage, kids, suffering, money, the direction of your life...you need to be going through life with an agreed-upon rulebook.

A shared foundation is essential.

Positive thinking isn’t automatically wrong. The danger is when it becomes a spiritualized form of self-reliance.

Christian hope isn’t about thinking positively in order to get what we want from God. It’s about fixing our minds on Him and trusting Him. Even when we don’t get what we want.

Our hope is rooted in Christ, not in the power of our mindset.

Everyone has something shaping the way they live.

For Christians, that authority isn’t supposed to be culture, our feelings, or whatever seems right in the moment. It’s God and His Word.

When our source of authority is different, the way we live should be different too.

Christians are called to live a life set apart.

One of the clearest differences is how we walk through suffering with hope and trust in God when life is at its hardest.

The goal isn’t for people to think we’re impressive. It’s for them to see something different in us and ultimately glorify our Father in heaven.

3 questions that will help you identify idols in your life:

1) What makes you angry when you don’t get it?
2) What would make life feel meaningless if it disappeared?
3) What are you willing to disobey God for in order to keep?

What we refuse to surrender can reveal what has taken God’s place in our hearts.

If someone rejects something essential to the gospel, you can still call them a friend. You can love them and spend time with them.

But the relationship may look different. Your hope becomes to lovingly point them toward the truth of the gospel.

Christians should have convictions, but not every conviction is a central issue.

Baptism, spiritual gifts, church structure, and other secondary issues matter. A lot. But disagreement on those things doesn’t automatically make someone unfaithful or outside the faith.

Hold your convictions firmly without turning every disagreement into a dividing line.
