Lazarus Living Raising awareness for the non-profit organization, Lazarus Living Inc., which is a novel approach to Expansion to every city would then seem appropriate.

During the course of my normal private practice as a housecall physician in the Indianapolis area, I am faced with the stark reality of seeing older, disabled, and chronically ill people living in the streets. Lazarus Living was conceived as a novel approach to help with this grave problem, with ambitions to radically change the current way we care for all of our aging population. Our current main facility will eventually house 4 people on a long term basis that are both chronically ill (skilled nursing facility level of care required) and chronically homeless. There will be a live-in nurse, in addition to an army of caregivers. Medical oversight will be given by licensed MD (internal medicine and geriatrics). Care will be modeled after both the family unit and the hotel hospitality industry. Looking to have a reputable research institution (?IU) study our model. When proven to work, plan is to buy other dilapidated properties, renovate, and refill them with another "family".

I started listening to the blurry creatures podcast again today after a bit of a hiatus. Often times, I commute to faraway places to provide services to skilled nursing facilities, which affords me the time to explore what fascinates me. In retrospect, it was likely the Holy Spirit working into my daily routine. The most recent episode was with this guest named John Bevere. I have never heard of the man before today, and I have not had the opportunity to research him further, but I guess that he has written a bunch of books. He was there talking about his most recent book, which is about the second coming of Jesus. It wasn’t so much about concrete predictions, but there was one. That always gives me pause, but he did talk about the right message. And his personal stories resonated with me, when he thought God was choosing the worst messenger. I have doubted myself and this mission because of my own weaknesses. But this blurry pastor reaffirmed all the demands from God to use my talents, as they are. The take home message that I received today was that Jesus has chosen us as His sacred bride. We should be eager in preparation for whenever this final promise is fulfilled, mortal death or not. We should be cleaning up our actions, not for fear of judgment, but because of eager anticipation of truly achieving enlightenment to the glory of God. This pastor calls for you to become a firebrand. I am going to give it a more consistent try. Let’s see where this goes.

I have been meeting with a very sharp mba/md student at IUSOM. We are working on organizing a street medicine collaborative effort, and I learned about another active medical outreach program at our most recent planning session. Turns out that I might be a bit of a legend in the streets, Dr. Tim. It sounds like I’m going to need to become some type of adjunct professor or something, but I hope to help an institutional power like IU create an enduring street medicine program. Every city needs one, which is what the Holy Spirit told me.
