❤️ The Good News with YYY Dads: Ricky Thornton

At YYY Dads, we know that when fathers have the support and resources to succeed, kids gain stronger relationships, greater stability, and hope for the future.

In the spirit of Father’s Day this weekend, we're celebrating Ricky Thornton. Ricky is working full-time with Pepsi as a Financial Assistant Analyst, recently purchased a vehicle, and is exploring housing opportunities for his growing family. After successfully completing house arrest, he's preparing to begin work toward his Master's degree—continuing to build a stable future for the people who matter most: his kids. ❤️

❤️ The Good News with YYY Dads: Austin Crabtree

At the heart of YYY Dads, it's always been about the kids… helping them reconnect with their fathers, build healthy relationships, and find stability in difficult seasons.

As we head into Father's Day weekend, we're celebrating dads like Austin Crabtree. Austin is working as a supervisor for a recovery housing organization, has recently moved into his own apartment, and is enjoying more time with his son. He also helps other justice-involved individuals find employment and continues his own growth through counseling and recovery support with Step-Up Inc.

When fathers are supported, kids thrive. ❤️

Meet Ashlyn N. Douthitt, LMFT, CFLE, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist dedicated to supporting individuals and families through meaningful connection and healing.

Ashlyn’s work is shaped by witnessing the impact of incarceration on families, inspiring her commitment to helping fathers and their loved ones feel seen, supported, and understood.

Through mindfulness, she guides clients in building self-compassion, staying present, and responding to life’s challenges with intention rather than reaction.

A lot of fathers coming home want to reconnect with their kids immediately.

But reentry is more complicated than people realize.

You’re trying to find work, housing, transportation, stability — while also learning how to parent again outside of a controlled environment. There’s pressure to “get it together” fast, even when the system hasn’t prepared you for the transition.

People celebrate the release date.
They don’t always talk about the mental adjustment that comes after it.

We are so thankful for our partnership with First Financial Bank and the way they consistently show up for the dads we serve at YYY.

Their team comes directly to our office to provide financial literacy classes during both the day and evening, giving dads flexibility to attend when it works for them. And whether 1 dad shows up or 10 dads show up, they come ready to support with the same level of care and commitment.

Beyond the classes, they help dads set up bank accounts, create helpful flyers and materials, walk through next steps, and even provide lunch and dinner.

More than anything, they remind our dads and our team that they are here for us.

We truly appreciate this partnership and all the ways First Financial Bank continues to invest in our families and community.

It’s the little things… that make a big impact! ❤️

At our family connection events, every detail is intentional:
🎒 Backpacks to fill with essentials
📚 Coloring books and activities
👟 New shoes for a fresh start
🍬 A little candy to bring a smile
🎨 Crafts to take home and remember the day
🪧 Welcoming signs that say “you belong here”

Because when a child reunites with their dad, it’s not just about the moment. It’s about creating an experience they’ll carry with them long after.

We’re proud to celebrate two YYY dads, DeWayne Harper and Cameron Parks, for completing the REDI Program!

Programs like the Indy Chamber REDI create space for entrepreneurs to grow their ideas, build confidence, and take meaningful next steps toward business ownership.
DeWayne’s business idea focuses on buying and reselling products at affordable prices with fast delivery, while Cameron is building A Clean World LLC — a professional cleaning company focused on creating cleaner, healthier spaces for homes, businesses, communities, and worksites.

A special thank you to Jon, the REDI Program Manager, for supporting and encouraging our dads throughout the experience. As Jon shared: “They both were a pleasure to have in class, and I am extremely confident in the businesses they have created.”

We’re excited to continue cheering them on in their entrepreneurship journeys!

People talk a lot about “freedom” after reentry, but not enough about how hard freedom can feel after years of not being in control.

Imagine every part of your day being decided for you for years — when to eat, where to go, when to sleep, what rules to follow. Then one day, you’re expected to make every decision on your own again and immediately succeed at life.

For a lot of dads coming home, that transition is overwhelming, to say the least.

The struggle isn’t always a lack of effort. Sometimes it’s learning how to exist again in a world that kept moving without you.

Meet Rae Karim: Certified Grief Coach and Certified Grief-Informed Specialist.

After losing both her grandfather and mother within just 16 days, Rae recognized a gap in the way grief support was offered… space to honor loss while still encouraging people to live fully. That experience led her to create the kind of support she couldn’t find. Through mindfulness, Rae helps those who are grieving build awareness, take meaningful action, and reconnect with the inner tools they already have to navigate loss in healthy, sustainable ways.
