Who knew musical chairs could bring SO much laughter?

🎃 Our final Fatherhood event at the IDOC Plainfield Correctional Facility for the year was full of Halloween fun, unforgettable moments, and something even more meaningful: CONNECTION.

Watching dads and kids compete in musical chairs was one of the funniest things we’ve seen! But beneath all the laughter was something powerful… time spent together, memories being made, and relationships continuing to grow.

We also celebrated a special first: one dad joined a Fatherhood event for the very first time! Every step toward connection matters, and we’re grateful he got to experience this with his child.

As we wrap up our year at Plainfield, we’re reminded that these moments are about so much more than an event. They’re opportunities for dads and kids to simply be together — and that matters. ♥️

🌟 Weekly Win: Ricky

We’re celebrating Ricky Thornton and the positive steps he’s taken along the way.

Ricky recently moved into a new home, celebrated one year of employment with Pepsi, and began giving back as a peer mentor with the YYY 24-Month Builders and Beacons Re-Entry Program. He also completed GPS monitoring and transitioned to probation... a significant milestone in his continued progress. Ricky recently welcomed his second child, marking another exciting chapter in his growing family and future.

Ricky’s journey is a powerful reminder of what progress looks like:

🌟 Weekly Win: J’Mon

We’re celebrating J’Mon Slaughter and the exciting progress he’s making! J’Mon recently started a new job and is feeling excited about this next step.

He’s also turning his creativity and life experiences into something meaningful for his grandson and others. J’Mon created a YouTube channel where he makes custom cartoons based on children’s requests, personal experiences, and lessons he’s learned along the way.
It’s touching, educational, and a powerful example of how YYY Dads are turning hard experiences into learning tools while continuing to move forward in positive ways.

We’re proud to celebrate J’Mon—not just for where he’s been, but for what he’s creating and where he’s going. ❤️

We’re celebrating Devante Gilbert-Bey and the meaningful progress he’s making in his life and as a father.

Devante received approved visitation, maintained full-time employment, strengthened his communication, and continues to spend meaningful time with his daughter. Each step forward is helping build a stronger, more connected future.

🎉 This calls for a celebration: We’ve grown by almost 1,000 Facebook followers in the past couple of years!!

This means nearly 1,000 MORE PEOPLE are learning about YYY, our mission, and the importance of keeping incarcerated fathers connected to their children.

Our participants, their families, partners, volunteers, and this entire community mean the absolute world to us. The more people who know about this work, the more connections we can help strengthen.

🌟 Weekly Win: Cam

We’re celebrating Cam (Cameron Parks) and the many ways he’s moving forward.

Cam regained custody of his children, continues to pursue self-employment and youth coaching opportunities, and is now giving back as a peer mentor with the YYY 24-Month Builders and Beacons Re-Entry Program.

From rebuilding his family life to investing in the next generation, Cam is creating positive change in his own life and the lives of others. ❤️
