☀️Take Action Here: sc.org/poseyforsolar ☀️

Learn more: The Posey County Area Plan Commission recently voted to support a solar ordinance with significant setbacks that would essentially block future solar development in the county. The ordinance now goes before the Posey County Commissioners for discussion and a possible vote on Tuesday March 3rd. Act now to put the brakes on the 500 and 1,000 foot setbacks from the property line which act as a de-facto ban for future solar energy in the community.

If the ordinance proceeds, the county is taking away the right of private landowners to lease their land for clean energy projects like solar.

The County Commissioners are expected to discuss, receive public comments, and vote on this ordinance at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, March 3 beginning at 9:00 AM CT at The Hovey House in Mt. Vernon.

How can you help:

1. Email commissioners to let them know you support solar and ask them to vote no on extending solar setbacks to 500 and 1000 foot setbacks.

2. Attend the hearing next Tuesday, March 3 beginning at 9:00 AM CT at The Hovey House in Mt. Vernon. A show of support in the room for solar can make the difference.

The Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter is opposing Senate Bill 277. Will you? Take action by clicking on the Action Link below.

Senate bill 277 weakens the duty of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to protect Hoosier families by holding corporate polluters accountable. There are many substantive changes found within SB 277. Here are a few reasons you may wish to mention when asking your State Representative to “Vote No” on SB 277:

-Provides the Governor with sole discretion to remove an Environmental Rules Board member without cause.
-Removes the requirement for a member of the Environmental Rules Board (ERB) to be qualified.
-SB 277 allows for septage, solid waste, or industrial waste products to be sprayed or spread onto the land surface. This could very quickly turn into a significant source of solid waste runoff into our waterways.
-Removes the option of the commissioner to prevent pollution.
-Makes optional the duty of the commissioner to hold polluters accountable.

Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter wants to see our state agency, Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), be the group that holds those who would pollute Hoosier lands, waters, and air accountable. Please ask your legislators to OPPOSE SB 277!
