Hello World Changers!

We are starting to fundraise for our 10th MYOField project that is based in Brazil!!!

We are boldly looking to raise $20,000 in the next two weeks (by Dec 3, Giving Tuesday).

MYOBD updates

1. Nigeria (9th MYOField project)
This project was a huge success. The turf field is beautiful and is being used by over 700 students weekly as well as the community of Makoko (a floating slum in Lagos, Nigeria)

Coach Jorge and I went to see the opening of the field and meet our amazing partners (Slum2School Africa) and the students that will be positively impacted by this field daily!

Check out our MYOBD instagram and Facebook to see the pics and read the stories!!!

2. Brazil (10th MYOField project)
We are partnering with Love Futbol and Dream Fields to raise money for a street soccer pitch in the community of Largo Da Galicia in Salvador, Brazil.

We are fundraising $20,000 to help make the street pitch better and safer for everyone who plays on it. This will include speed bumps leading up to it, resurfacing the playing area, lights, murals, netting, removable goals and more!!!

In addition to a safe place to play, we have made it a tradition to support one our two other projects on our trips abroad!

We connected with Carry Them Ministries and are blown away by the work their clinic’s doing to help women and newborns in Jos, Nigeria!

With your help we collected 250 bottles, 65 breast pumps and numerous other items that will directly support underserved women and babies!

Blown away by the donations!

When we got to Lagos, we shipped the donations to Jos and we just heard that they have arrived safely!

Thank you Nigeria!

Yesterday we chartered a small boat to take us to a remote fishing island to visit a school that Slum2school supports.

The school took a bit of a trek to get there but the journey was worth it!

We meet a teacher named Doris who is an absolute rockstar and we met her students who were overwhelmingly kind, joyful and welcoming.

We spent the day singing songs, playing games, eating ring pops, playing soccer, swimming in the water and laughing!

A soccer field has the potential to be life changing for so many. But it is just a space.

A teacher or a coach can use it to do the actual work of helping the young ones shine, grow and thrive.

I saw in Doris, a world changer that is daily changing lives by educating, empowering and loving on those kiddos. I am inspired to find ways to help her and her fellow teachers continue to do what they do!

A ball connects and unites us.

People have the power to inspire, empower and mold us.

And I’ve met so many people doing just that!

And a ball brought us together.

Today we held the opening ceremonies for the soccer field and it was epic!!! So many kids, so many community members and so many amazing volunteers!

There were speeches and traditional dances and ribbon cutting and pizza (shoutout to Domino's Pizza for donated 400 pizzas for the event and Cold Stone ice cream and a soccer tournament and a DJ and an announcer and so much more!

Our partners team won the championship and coach Jorge was the star!

We are blown away by the field and excited about the opportunities it will provide for thousands of student and community members!

What a day!!!! One the great days of our lives.

Thank you all for making this happen for so many kids who deserve the right to play!

Today we were honored to be invited into the Makoko community to see, meet and hang out with the kids and adults that will be directly impacted by the soccer field.

Makoko is a slum that is built on stilts and navigated by canoes in the lagoon off the coast of Lagos, Nigeria. The community is underserved and is faced with a lot of difficulties and challenges.

We hopped in a canoe and toured the community and met with community leaders about the potential of a floating field that would be more accessible for many of its members.

The school and our soccer field are located just on the edge of the land and still serves this community but those living in / on the water struggle to more around effectively and efficiently.

Our hearts are full but also crushed by the living conditions that so many people are currently living in.

We are honored to be partnering with Slum2school to help create educational and vocational opportunities for the school’s students and community members.

Today was a good day.

Today was another amazing day.

Sometimes making an impact and changing the world isn’t as exciting… today was one of those days.

But it was rewarding and we snuck in fun and shenanigans as often as we could!

We had meetings at the amazing headquarters of our partners Slum2School Africa The meetings were with love.fútbol and Dream Fields Non Profit Organization and Slum2School Nigeria to go over the plans for the opening day celebration of the new soccer field and to discuss programming, sustainability and dream about future projects.

We were so very impressed by and their awesome team of world changers. They are on the ground in underserved communities and are making an impact daily. Seriously people, they are heroes and I am thankful we got to meet and work with them.

I had a very proud moment when they showed an itemized list of donations we brought with us and I was able to tell them about the amazing people that donated and gave and care enough to do something good! So thank you all. They are blown away by the donations and I am so thankful for you all.

The photos are from our visit with them!

A ball connects us.

We boarded our flight to Lagos excited about the adventure, the impact, the new perspectives and about the people we will meet along the way.

When I could not sleep, I ended up stretching my legs in the back of the plane with 2 amazing humans.

One was a flight attendant who shared with me that she is from Central Africa Republic and worked to get her private pilots license and is currently working towards her commercial. She shared that the first female pilot she met inspired her and told her that she could do it too. Now she is well on her way and is even dreaming about opening a pilot school for young kids in her home country! I am routing for her and can’t wait to help build a soccer field at her school one day.
The other gentleman told me stories about how he has worked in soccer his whole life and how he just loves it. I invited him to the opening day of our pitch and he happily accepted the invitation.
Other stories include bonded over soccer with the baggage claim boys and getting us through a lengthy customs inspection of our donations by simply pumping up a ball and giving it to the leader. Finally, we were playing soccer tennis in the parking lot and got the chance to invite the assistant manager of the place we are staying to join us. Abraham is a teenage and jumped in with flair and joy! We sat around talking about soccer after and he shared that while he loves this game, he has to work everyday and does not have time. The smile on his face matched ours and we let him know that soccer tennis was on for to more as well! A ball connects us if we bring a smile and an invitation and curiosity along with it!
