Circle City Relief had a nice run during the 2021 & 2022 TCL campaigns. The Moe Brookins’ engineered roster was the TCL Champion in our first year at the B***r Fitness & Learning Center in 2021. They followed that with a runner-up finish to a Darius Adams led Big Brother Brothers Big Sisters team in 2022. Last summer Brookins sat out of The City League for the first time since 2017. This year he makes a comeback. And his team looks to aggressively announce their return. The group he put together will be a favorite to make a run in August.

This team will start with Alan Arnett. Brookins loves big guards who play both ends of the floor. The 6’5 Arnett, who played his high school basketball at Kokomo, is one of the best that we have at The City League. Alan, who is left handed, was the MVP of the Bulgaria’s top professional league in 2018. He played professionally this past season for Rilski Sportist in Bulgaria. Arnett was a 1st Team All- TCL performer back in 2022. If he can play at that level this summer look for this team to be extremely difficult to handle.

Running with Arnett in the backcourt is former UT-Martin guard Derek “Hawk” Hawthorne Jr. Hawk is the second 1st Team All-TCL performer on the perimeter for this group. He earned that honor in 2023 when he had his Press Play Gaming Lounge team a bucket away from a The City League title. He was a top ten scorer in the Ohio Valley Conference in ‘19-’20. Hawthorne Jr. and Arnett gives this team two guards who are currently playing professional basketball. Looking forward to seeing these two together.

The two wings on this team are nearly as solid. We’ll start with former North Central Panther Emmanuel Little. The 6’6 Little was a standout at the University of Southern Indiana where he was named 1st Team All-GLVC (‘19-’20) on a 22-8 team as a Junior. Little has been around the world playing professionally since, spending this past season in Venezuela top professional league. Little is a big, physical body who can score and rebound.

Little’s compatriot on the wing is 6’6 Filip Serwatka. Filip played his high school basketball at Concord (Shawn Kemp’s alma mater) where he averaged 20 points per game as a Senior. He walked on at Division I IPFW before playing professionally overseas and in the TBL. Serwatka can do a little bit of everything on the offensive end and likes to bang down low. He is a great pickup to bolster this teams’s frontcourt.

Brookins’ pitbull in the backcourt, Quental Weston, hails from South Bend Washington. Weston is one of the best defensive guards that we have in TCL every year. He is an extremely physical on ball defender. Q is a tone setter defensively when he is in the basketball game. Marcell “Rip” Reynolds was a standout guard at Broad Ripple High School. Reynolds give this group a little pop off the bench. He is a quick, shifty player who can get a bucket.

Richmond High School alumn Adrion Gibson is another solid piece. As was mentioned earlier, Brookins likes versatile guards who have size. Gibson is a poor man’s Alan Arnett. The 6’3 lefty was a starter on Richmond’s 2015 team that lost to a very good Evansville Reitz team in the Semi-State Championship game. He will give this group great minutes off the bench.

The final two pieces are former Franklin Central and IU-Kokomo guard David Kelly and Darrien McKenzie.

This group was built really well. They don’t have a true post but have pretty good size in the backcourt and on the wings.. Where this team lacks height they make up for it with physicality and toughness. Most of these guys have played together before. They should be ahead of the curve when it comes to chemistry. And they play to win. Five guys on this team have experience in the summer's final game. Come out to see if Brookins can return to prominence after a year off and four years removed from The City League Championship Game. Tune into TCL Live this summer for all the drama.

The City League debuted its women’s division, Queens of the Court, in 2021. In that inaugural season for the women, Coco Moore ran point for our first ever Champion, Knaturally You. The trio of Moore, Stephanie Mavunga, and Amber Harris would repeat in 2022. Since then Moore’s teams have been average at best. As the 2012 Indiana All-Star moves closer to retirement, she seeks to be the first player in the history of The City League, men or women, to win three titles in Indiana’s most popular pro-am. This is the deepest field we’ve had in six years of competition but Moore has a roster that has the ability to get her to her goal!

This group starts with Jillian Brown. Last year at this time Brown was working out at the University of Virginia preparing for her final year of ACC basketball. Brown, who hails from Grand Rapids, Michigan was a top 50 recruit ( #50 by ESPN) nationally coming out of high school. She would start her college career in the Big Ten at Northwestern where she had 18 points in a NU win against #4 Michigan her freshman year. Brown transferred to Virginia in 2023 to finish out her career. The big guard (5’11) is three months removed from playing at the highest level of women’s college basketball. She is a great piece for this group to build around.

The second high major player on this roster is former IU guard Jasmine McGhee. Jasmine, who went to Anderson, was the National Junior College Player of the Year in ‘10-’11 before heading to the Big Ten where she led the Hoosiers in scoring as a Junior. The 5’11 McGhee gives this roster athleticism and is someone that can score the basketball off the dribble.

Anna Posten (Munn) will make her debut in The City League this year. The 2010 Indiana All-Star out of Decatur Central played college basketball in the Missouri Valley at Indiana State. She was a 2nd Team All- MVC selection in 2013 after ranking third in the conference in scoring at 14.5 ppg. Posten makes three guards on this squad who are 5’10 and above. We like size on the perimeter.

Jillian Brown’s older sister Olivia is the 5th Division I player who will see minutes on this team over the next two months. Olivia played college basketball at St. Bonaventure and Valparaiso. She was named to the MVC All-Newcomer team at Valpo in ‘21-’22. The following year she led her team in scoring at 12 PPG while shooting .415% from downtown. The oldest Brown gives this team another young gun who should get her teammates opportunities with her ability to shoot the pill.

The strength of this team will be it’s guard play. But Sanayika Shields gives this group a really good piece underneath the rim. The 6’1 Shields is the daughter of Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Lineman Will Shields. She was a First Team All-GLVC selection at Division II Drury. In 2022 she was voted one of the five best players on the women’s side of The City League! Even though she is the only true post on this team she is going to have alot of help in the paint with this roster’s trio of big guards.

Former Taylor Trojan guard Becca Buchs gives her team another shooter on the perimeter. Buchs was a 1st Team All-Crossroads League player and Honorable Mention NAIA All-American in ‘19-20. She hit a school record 110 threes on 46% shooting that year… Avon Oriole Angel Gino- Gino is also on this team. Gino- Gino is another very capable three point shooter and is known for pulling up from deep!

This is the group that Coco Moore will trust to make her the most decorated athlete in The City League’s history. Moore will give this roster leadership. She is a heady point guard who knows the game. Coco can also play a little defense as she earned the Ohio Valley Conference’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year Award at SIU-Edwardsville in 2015-2016.

We have never seen the Brown sisters or Anna Posten (Munn) play but their resumes tell us that all three can hoop. Shields looks to be in the best shape of her 5 years competing in The City League. When she is at her best she can be an elite player. Queens of the Court normally has two standout teams with a third team lagging just behind. This year’s field looks to have 5 really solid rosters. Is this team good enough to get to the Wednesday night, August 5th Title Game? The drama unfolds at the B***r Fitness & Learning Center June 24th.

In 2022 Ron Patterson teamed up with Darius Adams and Chrishawn Hopkins to win a title at The City League. For the last four years he was been working hard to get back to the mountaintop. A torn ACL, teammates getting hurt, and teammates going overseas have presented challenges for Broad Ripple High School’s all-time leading scorer in boys basketball. Patterson is fresh off winning the Community Love Fest $10K Dust Bowl last weekend. He has an appetite for more. Does his group have what it takes to be successful in August at The City League?

Former George Washington Continental and UINDY standout Joe Lawson makes his debut at the B***r Center this summer. Joe was a key piece on Patterson’s Dust Bowl Championship team on Sunday. The 6’7 power forward was a 1st Team All-GLVC performer at UINDY before going overseas to play professionally. He is a load underneath. His skillset has gotten him paid in nine different countries since graduated from UINDY in 2015. Lawson is really mobile for his size and can shoot the three. Look for him to be a really tough cover for every team his faces this summer..

Jalen Moore is the engine that will make this group go. The Cloverdale High School alum graduated from the southern Indiana school as the 12th leading scorer in IHSAA boys basketball history (2,440 points). As a Junior in the Horizon League, at Oakland, the 5’11 guard led the NCAA in assists (‘20-’21). Moore’s expertise in distributing the rock will come in particularly handy with this group. They have a couple of guys that are most effective with the ball in their hands. In his final year with the Golden Grizzlies Jalen was named 1st Team All-Horizon League. We got a taste of Mr. Moore last summer.

TJ Henderson is one of the players that Moore will have to keep happy. The former IUPUI and Marian guard is a scorer, that is what he does. He averaged 10.8 PPG in his last year at the Division I level. Henderson was a crucial piece of the Press Play Gaming Lounge team that narrowly won The City League Title in 2023. TJ took last year off and looks to make a splash with his new teammates in 2026.

The aforementioned Patterson was a star at Broad Ripple High School. A career that earned him a spot on the 2012 Indiana All-Star team. He signed with IU out of high school before playing for Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim at Syracuse. Ron would finish his career at IUPUI where he averaged 10.3 points per game in ‘17-’18. Patterson can shoot the basketball. Moore and Lawson should get him lots of good looks on the perimeter.

Henderson isn’t the only Marian alum represented on this roster. Tyrie Johnson and Trey Patterson also suited up for the Knights in college. The 6’2 Johnson was a member of the ‘21-’22 Crossroads League All-Defensive team. He is also a capable scorer if needed. Tyrie shot 45% from deep his first year at Marian. He is another player who has played on a TCL Championship team (‘24 Prudential). Trey Patterson is a former Pike Red Devil who played at Marian. Patterson is a big body who will add some depth to a thin front court.

Justin Burns (6’1) prepped at Decatur Central before playing college football at Wittenberg College. He, like Tyrie Johnson, is a good athlete who will be an asset on both ends of the court. 6’7 Dreon Lewis played at TC Howe before going on to Division II Central State. He will be a TCL rookie this summer. We will see what kind of a player he turns out to be. Marcus Walton, a 6’1 guard out of Arsenal Tech High School rounds out this roster.

Patterson has constructed a roster that should be difficult to handle on the offensive end of the floor. This group has two players who have experience taking home money in August. Another, Henderson, was a bucket away from the 2023 title. They have winning experience. The Joe Lawson pickup is a really good one. Will there be enough ball to go around with this group? And will they be committed to really lock in on the defensive end. This is an intriguing group. Come watch them compete at The City League!

Trevor Williams is looking to make his mark on The City League this summer as a first time participant. He won’t lace up his sneakers once over the next two months . Williams is playing the role of GM. He has put together a roster that he believes is good enough to compete with the best teams TCL has to offer. The former boxer, who has spent the past 17 years in Kokomo, grew up loving hoops. He has stayed connected to the game over the last five years by organizing teams to put into big tournaments around Indiana. Williams connection to former Kokomo BobKat guard Michael Tillman is the genesis of his roster and his spot in Indiana’s most competitive pro-am event.

Williams is building this group around Tony Perkins’ former Lawrence North teammate DJ Hughes. The 6’7, former Butler basketball player, was a leader on the ‘20-’21 Wildcat team that lost in OT to Carmel in the 4A State Championship Game. DJ averaged 13.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg his senior year at LN. He played two seasons at Butler before transferring to East Tennessee State. Hughes is a load down low. He should be one of the most effective bigs in The City League this summer.

The strength of this team will be Michael Tillman, Jomel Boyd, and Ajay Lawton. This trio represents three of the four core pieces of the undefeated 2024 Prudential Championship team. These three compliment each other nicely. Richmond Red Devil alum Tillman can really shoot the rock. He is going to give this group someone with size (6’4) on the perimeter who can go get a bucket when it is needed. His complement in the backcourt is former Westfield guard AJ Lawton. The 2nd Team All-GLVC player at UINDY (‘17-’18) is cat quick and a real ball hawk on the defensive end. He ranks 7th on the IHSAA all-time list with 13 steals in a high school game. He is someone you can put on the other teams best guard and expect them to have problems. The big man of this group is former Anderson standout, 6’6, Jomel Boyd. Jomel is another player that can go get a bucket in the post when needed. Boyd famously went for 29 points against Kentucky in Rupp Arena in 2021. It will be fun watching him and Hughes work together down low.

Fresh off a PIVOT League title, Aaron Humphrey Jr. (6’7) gives this team a wing with size who can really score the basketball. Humphrey Jr. was the leading scorer and rebounder for Pat Knight’s Marian team this past season. He is going to be fun to watch over the next couple of months. The City League doesn’t have alot of guys at his size with as much skill.

Aaron Humphrey Jr. isn’t the only player coming off a successful PIVOT League. Kamea Chandler dropped 40 points in a loss to Humphrey Jr.’s team in the PIVOT League Title Game a month ago. The 5’11 pg is a knockdown shooter who has experience in big games. He was the leading scorer for Guerin Catholic (22 points) in their OT loss to Northwood in the 2023 3A Boys State Championship Game. He and Tillman might be the best pair of perimeter shooters any team will employ this summer.

Dwayne Gibson Jr. is a little bit older version of Aaron Humphrey Jr. The 6’5 Gibson Jr. won two State Championships at Park Tudor before going on to play at Division II Nova Southeastern. Dwayne averaged double figures in points his last three years of college. He can also shoot the basketball, knocking down 40% of his triples as a sophomore. He gives this group 4 guys 6’5-6’7 that have alot of versatility.

William Avance gives this group a solid point guard that is going to provide great leadership. He can score and will team with Lawton to give this group two lock down defenders on the perimeter.

Former Anderson Highland standout Jordan Worley gives this yet another 6’5 player in the frontcourt that has bulk to him. Expect Worley to come in and bang when his number is called.

Williams says that he has been waiting to get into The City League. Every team that will compete in June, July, and August has a roster with ability. The thing that separates the really good teams from the average teams is.. Chemistry. This group has pieces. Have they played together? How well will they mesh once the ball tips. Tillman, Boyd, and Lawton played on a team that possessed the best chemistry of any group we’ve had in ten years. Will they be able to bring that intangible to this group. We are about to find out! Come check these guys out at the B***r Center this summer!

We first became acquainted with Willie Morris back in December of 2021. He was on the team that won a PIVOT League holiday tournament TCL ran at the Finish Line Boys & Girls Club. The Indy Met product became one of just two players to ever win tournaments in both the PIVOT League and The City League when his Prudential team won big at the B***r Fitness & Learning Center in 2024. After a disappointing showing last summer, Morris decided he wanted to put his own squad together. And, on paper, it looks like he can cook!

Morris’ group is built around 2020 Indiana All-Star out of Lawrence North, Tony Perkins. After high school Perkins went on to have a great career in the Big Ten at Iowa, where he was 2nd Team All-Big Ten in ‘23-’24. Tony is the best athlete in The City League this summer. He is one of a handful of guys that you can build a championship team around. When the schedule comes out, find Perkins team and put his games on your calendar.

Perkins will be paired with another great athlete in former Arlington Knight Donoven Carlisle. The 6’8 Carlisle moves like a guard. He is a really talented offensive player. After graduating from Arlington Donoven went on to play Division I basketball at the University of Denver where he started 20 games as a sophomore. After transferring to Shawnee State, he was the third leading scorer on a 31-2 team that won an NAIA National Title during in ‘20-’21.

Add 6'7 Noah Jordan to the mix and this group’s front line only gets stronger. Both Carlisle and Jordan have size but also like to play out on the wing. Noah, who played Division I basketball at Portland State, can really score the basketball. He likes to compete and will bring an emotional leadership, necessary to winning, to this roster. .

The final Division I / Pro on this squad is 6’5 Pike alumn Edward Jones Jr. Edward played his college ball at Division II Kentucky Wesleyan where he was named 1st Team All-GMAC in ‘24-’25. This past winter he played professional basketball in Kongsberg, Norway. Jones is the 4th piece of this core that has size and athleticism.

Kycia Washington might be one of the most offensively gifted guards in Indianapolis. The former TC Howe guard was a starter on a Hornet squad that was the 2A State Runner-Up in 2016. Washington will create alot of opportunities for his guys to get easy buckets.

David Perkins is coming off a PIVOT League Title in May. The Lawrence North Wildcat alumn is a physical 6’5 lefty. He is an Xavier McDaniel who can get you a bucket or a stop when you need it.

Payton Ross and Rizzario Vaughn are the 2nd & 3rd Arlington boys basketball players on this roster. Payton played Division III basketball at Defiance. He gives this group some physicality at the guard spot. Vaughn, who won a PIVOT League title with Jordan in 2025 is a knock down shooter from deep. If he gets spotted up, with time, you expect him to hit the shot. His skill will help relieve pressure on T. Perkins, Carlisle, and Jordan.

The captain is last. Willie Morris played his high school at Indy Met before playing at Central Lakes Junior College. He is a shifty, 6’0 guard who is solid. Morris had a 30 point game against Press Play Gaming Lounge, the eventual champion, in The City League last summer.

This is another good, young group. They might be the most athletic team at the B***r Center this summer. I’ll be interested to see how their core of T. Perkins, Jordan, Carlisle, and Jones Jr. fits. Do they have enough guys that are able and willing to affect the game without the basketball. If the chemistry is there, this roster has the talent to do create some major problems in August. Check these guys out all summer long on the campus of Arsenal Tech High School!

Former Brownsburg Bulldog Destiny Thomas has brought teams to The City League each of the last two summers. Last year her squad was built around 2025 MAC Player of the Year from Ball State, Ally Becki. Ally recruited three of her Ball State teammates and ran through the pool play portion of their TCL schedule before falling to the Horizon League in a fantastic title game. The 2026 version of Thomas’ team will look very different but is good enough to give themselves the opportunity to get back to Championship Night!

We start in the backcourt with the Smith twins, Olivia and Hailey. The sisters will be the starting backcourt at IU-Indy in November. They were the 2nd and 3rd leading scorers for the Jaguars last season at 10.6 ppg (Olivia) and 10.1 ppg (Hailey) respectively. These two bring an energy and toughness that are necessary if this group wants to repeat their success from 2025.

The two IU-Indy guards will join forces with UINDY’s top two guards from this past season in Patty Chikamba and Autumn Rucker. Chikamba was the breakout star in the Queens of the Court last summer. She dropped a 40 piece on Girls Inc. in Week 3 and would go on to finish 4th in the league in scoring for the year. She would lead the UINDY in scoring at 14.3 ppg this past season while her running mate, Rucker, contributed 10.6 ppg. The backcourt should be a strength for this team with the top four guards from two of Indy’s local college programs.

The third Division I spot is occupied by Hoftstra forward Ramatoulaye Keita. The 5’11 Keita prepped at Lake Forest Academy outside of Chicago. She is left LFA as it’s all-time leading scorer before moving on to the Division I level. In her last college season at Hofstra Keita averaged 6.3 ppg and 7.6 rpg. She had a couple of big games on the glass including an 18 rebound game against Stonybrook. Big pickup for Thomas.

Jada Patton will be the first Penn Kingsmen athlete to lace ‘em up at TCL. She led her Penn team to a semi-state championship appearance in 2018 while being named IBCA Senior Large School All-State. The 6’0 Patton would average 7.8 ppg at IU-Indy before finishing her college career at Jacksonville State this past season.

6’2 Jalaya Dowell will pair nicely with Patton and Keita, giving this team a formidable front line. She averaged 10 pts and 6 rbs per game on a Castle team that was undefeated before a Regional Championship loss to Center Grove in 2018. Dowel comes from strong basketball bloodlines as her father, Derrick Dowell, was a 2-time All- Pac 10 selection at USC before being drafted by the Bullets in the 1987 NBA draft.

Another holdover from Thomas’ team last summer is her high school teammate Kailyn Terrell. At Brownsburg Terrell was a pre-season pick by the Indy Star for the ‘21-’22 IndyStar Super Team. She would go on to play at Division II Nova Southeastern in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. As a Freshman for the Sharks Terrell would be named the Sunshine State Conference’s Freshman of the Year while shooting 35% from deep. Look for Terrell to be able to spot up and get looks with this team’s strong guard and post play.

Daesjah Ely, the niece of 2001 Indiana Miss Basketball, Shyra Ely, is another solid piece for this group. The 6’0 Ely, played at Roncalli for Stan Benge before playing college ball at IUPUI and Central State. The lefty gives this group yet another player with size down low and on the wing.

Last but not least is the captain, Destiny Thomas. Destiny is a solid guard who loves the game. She is aggressive with a really good midrange pull-up. She was on Brownsburg’s 2022 state-runners up and has been around winning.

Thomas’ group is very different from last summer. But this team is young and are all playing alot of basketball right now. They will be the most fit, sharp team that take the floor over the next couple of months. It will be alot of fun to see how they match up with some of the older teams in Queens of the Court. Who wins the youth vs experience game? Come find out starting June 24th!

06/06/2026

If any team, any brand on the men’s side of The City League can be considered a perennial power it is Mambos Cheesesteak Grill. Each year team owner / coach Sydney McDaniel consistently constructs the best core group of any roster in TCL . They won in 2023, were shocked in the title game by Zac Owens & Company in 2024, then were beat in last summer’s tournament after losing Darius Adams. This group isn’t too happy about how the last two seasons played out. The roster is different. But they will still be considered the favorite.

In the past, Mambos has been so special because of the 3 headed monster of Darius Adams, John Hart, and Marquis Teague. Any time that group was on the court they were the best backcourt in the game.

Marquis Teague won’t be suiting up for McDaniel this summer. But Mambos doesn’t rebuild, they reload.

Former Northwest Space Pioneer and IUPUI Jaguar Alex Young will step in to replace the former NBA guard. Teague leaves huge shoes to fill but Young has the ability to ensure that Mambos doesn’t miss a beat. Young was the City Player of the Year at Northwest in 2008. He would go on to be named 1st Team All-Summit League at IUPUI before playing professionally all over the world. The 6’6 forward was a 2-time all-star in Israel’s top league, a league with a lot of former NBA players. Alex gives this group more size than it’s had at their skill positions in the past.

Everyone knows Darius Adams. The former UINDY guard who has played in the G-League and in some of the top leagues overseas, including the Chinese Basketball Association. Darius wins everything around Indianapolis. He missed last year’s tournament while taking his TBT team on a cinderella run last July. In 2018, while in China, he led their top professional league in scoring at 38.7 PPG. He was the MVP of the CBA iin 2019. Last year the question was posed to a current professional basketball player from Indy, “who is the best current pro who lives in Indianapolis?”. He quickly said, “Darius Adams. He is a video game.” That’s all you need to know.
Add John Hart to the mix and Mambos has three really good pieces to build off. Hart played at Purdue behind NBA guard E’Twaun Moore during one of the most successful eras in Purdue basketball history. John is an extremely crafty scorer who knows how to use his body and footwork to get anything he wants going to the basket. He can also really shoot the basketball. Hart would be the #1 option on most teams but as he has done most of his career he is willing to sacrifice being the primary option for winning.

The 4th pro on this team is Desean Hampton. Desean played in Luxembourg this past season. The former Speedway and IU-Kokomo standout is a muscular 6’5, freak athlete who will give this group a presence in the post. Hampton is the all-time leading rebounder and shot blocker in IU-Kokomo history. He is a good compliment to the other three pros who like to score the basketball.

New this year, McDaniel adds a couple of lefty guards in Franqlin Gatson and Eric Meeks. Both Meeks (IU-Kokomo) and Gatson (Calumet College of St.Joseph) played in college at NAIA schools. Gatson is scrappy and can really shoot the basketball. Look for Adams, Young, and Hart to create great opportunities for him to score. Meeks played on the 2014 Arsenal Tech state title team with Trey Lyles and company. He is a heady player who will give this group a really solid option coming off the pine.

Jason Peace was on the Prudential team that shocked Mambos in the 2024 TCL Title game. The 6’5 former IU Northwest forward is really skilled on the block. He scores and rebounds well for his size. Most importantly he doesn’t need the rock to be effective. Great pickup!

The last five years this group has played with former Ritter standout and Green Bay Packer wide receiver Tyrone Walker. Tyrone decided it was time to hang up the sneakers. But McDaniel liked the physical defensive presence Walker offered, so he went back to the gridiron and snatched former Eastern Michigan football commit Antawn Weeden. At 6’1, Weeden is a strong, physical, athletic guard who will get into the other team’s best perimeter player. He brings a specific skill to this team and fits perfect with their guard lineup.

This is the most change McDaniel’s team has seen since The City League moved to the B***r Center in 2021. The loss of Marquis Teague is large. We have yet to see Alex Young compete in TCL. He is an extremely gifted player. Will it matter that he is 36? The core of this group is getting older. But my money would still be on them to be competing for The Lockefield Trophy on the ISC Sports Network in August. Don’t miss them!

The City League is getting younger this summer. Over the last nine years we’ve been dominated by veteran groups that will pick up a young player or two who fit into what they want to do on the basketball court. This year we’ve got several teams that are very young. The best of them might be the group that former Brebeuf standout Billy Smith has assembled. He’s got a group of guys that largely hail from the north suburbs (Zionsville, Carmel, Westfield). Guys who have played basketball at a really high level but have yet to step foot on the floor at the B***r Fitness & Learning Center. Five players (one walk-on) on Smith’s roster were playing Division I basketball in March. This summer will be the first time any of these guys will don the TCL logo on their chest.

Smith grabbed one of the best young guards in the city in Leland Walker. The former North Central High School standout went on to play at Eastern Kentucky and Florida Atlantic before finishing up his college career at Wyoming in March. Most people in Indy are familiar with the lightning quick, 6’1 Walker. He led the Cowboys in scoring this past season at 13.5 ppg. He is athletic, can shoot the basketball, and get to the rim whenever he wants. This roster will give him guys to kick to once he gets in the lane. Look for Walker to be one of the most electric guards to watch over the next two months.

Billy Smith is one of those guys Walker will kick it too on the perimeter. The 6’7 forward enjoyed several stops at the Division I level, finishing his career this past year at UT-Chattanooga. At Bellarmine he averaged 14 ppg while shooting 38.7% from deep.

Former Westfield All-State guard Cam Haffner is another player, like Smith, who is really going to benefit from playing with Leland Walker. Haffner set a Shamrock school record with 85 made threes as a senior in ‘21- ‘22. He led Westfield to the Regional Championship game before going on to be named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Freshman of the Year at Eastern Illinois. This past November he dropped 18 points, including 5 made triples on #23 Vanderbilt in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

The final Division I player in this group is 6’10 former Carmel standout Charlie Williams. Mr. Williams gives this group a true post, something that will be a luxury at The City League this summer. Charlie was a starter on Carmel’s 2021 4A State Championship team before being named All-State as a senior. He would go on to play at William & Mary before finishing at Lipscomb. This past season at Lipscomb he averaged 10.1 ppg. Look for him to have alot of opportunities to crash the board off Leland Walker pe*******on.

Another player we are excited to see this summer is former Zionsville standout Nathan Childress. The 6’6 Childress was a walk-on at IU before playing one year at Indiana Wesleyan. During the ‘23-’24 season Nathan was the second leading scorer on a 28-6 IWU team. His performance would earn him 2nd Team All-Crossroads League honors. That’s a big honor in one of the best conference in the NAIA.

The second Zionsville Eagle turned IU walk-on is current Hoosier Drew Snively. Drew was a two time All-Hoosier Crossroads Conference First Team performer. He averaged 12.8 PPG as a senior at Zionsville while shooting 36.8 % from three.

The bench consists of a group of small college guys who will give this team the ability to rest without a huge drop off. Indiana Wesleyan forward Matthew Brown stands 6’6. He gives this roster size when Williams, Childress, and Smith need a break. Former Brebeuf and Colorado Christian guard Zach Reed shot 41% from deep last year at the Division II level. This squad is rounded out with a pair of 6’4 guard/wings from Indy Charter schools. They will shore up the wing/perimeter play. Purdue Poly standout Chiristian Perkins (6’4) played at Division III Mary Baldwin and Indy Met guard Terrell Galbreath played JUCO ball at Kaskaskia.

This group is one that we haven’t had eyes on. But they are very intriguing. We don’t have another team who has 5 guys that were playing Division I basketball two months ago. Smith’s team has good size and a couple of guys that can really shoot the rock. Extremely interested to see how their youth stacks up against some of our more experienced teams. Expect these guys to be very competitive against the top teams in TCL. Come check them out starting June 24th at The City League!
