Teacher Training Day 2 took educators deeper into the world of civil construction.

Teachers and administrators from multiple states started day 2 by exploring engineering careers with ACEC Indiana, then got hands-on with modern surveying technology alongside Vincennes University, the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyors, and American Structurepoint, and learned how traffic signals, lighting, and transportation systems come together with James H. Drew Corporation.

The day wrapped up at the Level Up 31 project, where Rieth-Riley Construction, Indiana Department of Transportation, Purdue University JTRP, and The Hoosier Company, LLC. shared how collaboration, technology, and skilled professionals keep major infrastructure projects moving forward.

The 2026 Teacher Training is officially underway!

Day one took educators from the source of construction materials to the production of the materials in the roads we drive on every day. Participants toured the Martin Marietta aggregate mine and quarry, explored asphalt production at Rieth-Riley Construction, and learned how organizations like the Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association, Build Indiana Council, and Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana - APAI are helping shape the future of the industry in Indiana.

The day ended with discussions on creating stronger work-based learning opportunities for students, led by the team from Brooks Construction Company, Inc.

A huge thank you to Martin Marietta, Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association, Build Indiana Council, Rieth-Riley Construction, Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana - APAI, and Brooks Construction Company,. for investing their time and expertise in the next generation of civil construction education.

Six years ago, Teacher Training started in a high school classroom with four teachers who came together to change construction education.

Four years ago, the program found a home at ICI, helping grow the idea into what it is today. Now, representatives from three states are attending to see what they can learn about workforce development in civil construction.

Next week marks another year of bringing teachers, administrators, and industry professionals together, and we are just getting started.

This year, 18 CCP teachers and education professionals will come together in Indianapolis for a week of hands-on learning and connection with the companies and individuals who keep Indiana moving.

We are excited to host this group of changemakers and give them tools to take back to their classrooms to help the next generation of road builders find their way.

Classroom learning is important, but hands on experience with the companies who do the work every day is what really gets people thinking about a future in the industry.

Recently at a concrete sandbox day hosted at MacAllister Machinery, young adults from Skilled US had the opportunity to complete a concrete pad from start to finish.

From prep work to finishing touches, participants worked side by side with industry professionals, asked questions, learned new skills, and got a firsthand look at what it takes to succeed in the civil construction industry, all while having fun outdoors.

A huge thank you to American Concrete Institute (ACI), MacAllister Rentals, MacAllister Surface Prep, Indiana Chapter of the American Concrete Institute, R.L. McCoy Inc., Irving Materials, Inc. and Shelby Materials for providing materials, expertise, and support to help make this experience possible.

When students hear directly from industry professionals, it helps bridge the gap between “what is this?” and “this could be me.”

Members of Brooks Construction Company, Inc. recently visited Columbia City High School to share information about the upcoming Women IN Roads Summer Camp and connect with students about opportunities in civil construction.

This camp offers hands-on experience, jobsite exposure, and direct time with industry professionals giving students a real look at careers in civil construction.

The Civil Construction Pathway opens students’ eyes to the depth of the industry and just how essential it is to everyday life.

Students from Franklin Central High School recently visited Purdue University to explore the S-BRITE Center, where they got an up-close look at real bridges and the engineering behind them.

Jazmin Ramirez wasn’t sure what path to take after high school. Now she’s helping lead projects across the state.

She found her direction after serving in the Army Reserves and attending Indiana State University. An internship with Rieth-Riley Construction turned into a career, and the rest is history.

Now a project manager, she enjoys the constant challenges that keep her growing and never too comfortable. Her advice? Ask questions. There is no such thing as a bad one.
