It's Giving Tuesday! Please consider donating to my nonprofit, Spirit of the Village, Inc.
I launched in February 2020 one month before the world including schools shutdown due to the COVID pandemic. At that time, I supported parents in navigating teaching their children at home and offered workshops where my mentor who is an extraordinary international literacy specialist, Dr. Gwen Lavert , taught parents how to wire their children's brain for reading.
Also, SOTV transitioned into a virtual space (The Village Academy) in which we invited people from the community to discuss topics that mattered to the Black community. In summer 2022, I moved to Georgia. By December 2022, The Village Academy was back this time hosting weekly discussions centered around the Black History, Black Freedom, Black Love Masterclass, which was a hit and turned into the monthly Village Cypher in 2024.
While The Village Academy (the virtual space) will continue, it is NOW time to implement the original plan which was to partner with schools and their families in an effort to "Restore the Spirit of the Village", strengthen families, and increase student achievement. However, rather than following the Harlem Children's Zone model, I have created my OWN model, The Village Model! Stay tuned...and please donate and share!
