The Cathedral Women of Christ Church Cathedral host the much beloved Indy Strawberry Festival on Monument Circle on the second Thursday in June from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

A true sign of summer in Indianapolis returns Thursday, June 11.

The Indy Strawberry Festival celebrates 60 years on Monument Circle with homemade strawberry shortcake, fresh strawberries, ice cream, and whipped topping served from 9 AM to 4 PM, or while supplies last.

What started in 1965 with just 100 shortcakes has grown into one of Indy’s favorite summer traditions, now serving nearly four tons of strawberries each year. Best of all, proceeds support charitable organizations throughout Central Indiana.

📣 Volunteers Needed! The 60th Annual Strawberry Festival is almost here, and we need helping hands to make one of Indy’s favorite summer traditions possible. From serving shortcakes and greeting guests to helping behind the scenes, there’s a place for everyone to join in the fun on Monument Circle.

It all started with Pat Harding and Nate Gore sixty years ago. The first Strawberry Festival was held on Thursday, June 10, 1965, after parishioner Pat proposed bringing a cherished tradition from her hometown of Lymington, England, to downtown Indianapolis. Alongside Nate, the Cathedral Sexton, the Cathedral Women embraced the idea to raise funds, strengthen community, and share joy.

That first year, volunteers baked and sold just 100 homemade shortcakes on the church lawn. Timed to coincide with evening shopping hours at the old J.C. Penney department store on Monument Circle, the festival sold out within two hours.
