Courage is something we see in so many of our Littles here at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana! It's also a major theme in the new film, Wildwood, by LAIKA Studios.

We're excited to share a story about how one of our Littles, Donovan, has shown tremendous bravery by facing his fear of public speaking alongside his Big Brother, Bryce. Despite his fear, Donovan has appeared in a live news interview to speak about his experience as a Little in the BBBS program not once, but TWICE!

Both times, Bryce was there to cheer him on, offer encouragement, and show up as a source of support- something Donovan says he really appreciates about him. These experiences have helped Donovan grow more comfortable with public speaking and gain a lot more confidence!🌟

This Invisible Disabilities Week, we're excited to share about a Mentor Meet-Up we recently hosted for current Bigs to learn more and connect with other mentors about the disabilities that the young people in their life might be dealing with. 🌟

Led by Em Clemenz, Senior Mentoring Relationship Specialist, this training provided an introduction to ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), dyslexia, and general learning disabilities. Mentors had the chance to take part in a discussion of practical accommodations and coaching strategies that benefit their Littles.

When asked what Little Brother Maxwell was looking for in a Big, he shared he wanted his mentor to be kind, courageous, and caring - and enjoy playing basketball. 🏀

We think he found the perfect match with Big Brother Bernardo! These two were just recently matched, and are already looking forward to playing basketball, going to sporting events, and attending BBBSCI activities.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the rich cultures, voices, and traditions that help shape the lives of the youth and families we serve. 🌟

To help celebrate this month, BBBSCI recently hosted a Hispanic Heritage Month game night with our Bigs and Littles! Youth had the opportunity to learn about the cultural signifigance of maracaras, and DIY their own using beads, cups, tape, and paint. 🪇🎨

Additionally, we served a traditional Hispanic pastry, called Conchas, from Mama Ines Mexican Bakery!

Have you noticed all the green BBBSCI signs that recently popped up all over Central Indiana?! 💚🪧

Many of those signs were delivered and placed by volunteers from Eli Lilly on Global Day of Service! After filling up on coffee and breakfast treats, spending some time learning about BBBSCI and the importance of mentorship, Eli Lilly volunteers set out to deliver over 350 yard signs within our community!

Thumbs up to a fun-filled kayaking outing spent getting to know your Little!🛶☀️

Little Brother Colten and Big Brother Ben were just recently matched and decided to go kayaking for their very first hangout. They've already began to bond over their shared love for video games and also share having very creative personalities!

We're still thinking about the magical evening we had at The Main Event: The Magic of Mentoring with Title Sponsor Delta Faucet on Saturday. 🪄✨

The evening featured magical entertainment from magician and emcee, Jon Mobley, a show-stopping choir performance from Cathedral High School, and an important reminder of the dreams that mentorship can help our young people achieve.

Of course, the evening ended with guests dancing the night away at the afterparty. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

We had a MAGICAL evening at The Main Event: The Magic of Mentoring with Title Sponsor Delta Faucet on Saturday night! 🪄✨

From the reception to the afterparty, the night was FULL of energy, dancing, meaningful stories and moments, and of course, magic! Proceeds from this Gatsby-style gala support the youth in our community and help their biggest dreams come alive.
