đźš‘ Indiana just made a major change to emergency care.

As of September 1, Indiana became only the third state in the nation to end routine ambulance diversion for hospital overcrowding. Previously, an overcrowded hospital could ask EMS to take patients elsewhere, potentially adding 15–20 minutes of travel time and keeping already-limited ambulances out of their communities even longer.

Ending diversion won’t fix ER overcrowding overnight. But state health officials say redirecting patients wasn’t solving the underlying problem and could create additional risks for patients.

Would you bet on whether a new drug gets FDA approval? Because now, you can.

Prediction markets are expanding into medicine, allowing real money to be wagered on FDA decisions and clinical trial outcomes. And as GTC Vice President Jane Hartsock discusses with the Indianapolis Business Journal, that raises serious questions about financial incentives, medical research, and the patients at the center of it all.
