The Indianapolis Women’s Chorus (IWC) embodies musical excellence and the power of women and song to transform communities. Drawing our repertoire from a wide variety of sources, IWC sings music that gives voice to the experiences of women as well as those common to all of us, including music composed by women and songs from world vocal traditions. Over more than two decades of singing, IWC has br
ought empowering and inspiring music to audiences in Indianapolis and beyond, from our season concerts, to performances at the Indiana Women’s Prison and the NCAA Women’s Final Four basketball tournament, to cities around North America as part of GALA (Gay and Le***an Association of Choruses) and the Sister Singers Network. A feminist community chorus with roots in the LGBTQ choral movement, the Indianapolis Women’s Chorus was founded in 1994 under the auspices of Crossroads Performing Arts, along with our “sibling” ensemble, the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus. In 2016, IWC became an independent not-for-profit organization. Meagan Johnson joined the Indianapolis Women’s Chorus as Artistic Director in 2015. Prior to working with IWC, Meagan served as music director of Amasong, and founded the Indianapolis World Music Chorus. Meagan Johnson is also a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique with studios in Indianapolis and Bloomington, IN, where she teaches at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. IWC’s accompanist is Tyler Secor, a talented collaborative pianist who is currently pursuing doctoral studies in music theory at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
