What a night on Fall Creek. 🛶🔥

On Friday, our volunteers paddled 2.5 miles of Fall Creek — from the Citizens Energy Group aqueduct all the way down to the confluence with the White River — pulling trash and debris out of the water along the way. Then we did what any good cleanup deserves: ended it with a bonfire, hot dogs from Kincaid's Meat Market, and drinks for everyone who showed up.

Beautiful evening, great people, and a cleaner creek to show for it.

Thank you to everyone who paddled, hauled, and showed up to make this happen — and a huge thank you to our partners Franks Paddlesports Livery and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful for helping make this event possible.

Tomorrow night on Fall Creek. 🛶

Only 8 spots left — register before 2pm tomorrow for our Fall Creek Canoe Cleanup and Cookout. Paddle the creek, pull the trash, then end the evening around a bonfire with hot dogs from Kincaid’s Meat Market and drinks for everyone who shows up.

This Friday, June 12th — join us for our Fall Creek Canoe Cleanup and find out what else is hiding in the water. Park at the Indy Urban Wilderness Trail, shuttle up to the launch, and paddle Fall Creek all the way back to your car while pulling trash along the way. Then we’ll wrap the evening with a bonfire and cookout featuring hot dogs from Kincaid’s Meat Market. 🔥🌭

We are incredibly grateful to the Scientech Foundation of Indiana for awarding Friends of the White River a $5,000 grant to support the purchase of a new raft trailer!

This trailer will carry our rafts, river safety gear, and River School programming materials — the equipment that gets kids on the White River and connects them to the science happening right beneath the surface. River School is at the heart of what we do, and investments like this one make it possible to keep those experiences accessible to more students across Central Indiana.

Yesterday, our Interim Executive Director, Jason DeArman, joined the Scientech Foundation's Chris Moore at their luncheon to receive the grant. Jason shared a bit about what the funds will be used for and what River School means to the young people who experience it firsthand.

The Scientech Foundation has been funding STEAM education programs in Indiana since 1967 — supporting science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. We are honored to be among the organizations they have chosen to support, and we look forward to putting this investment to work on the river.

Due to dangerously high water levels from recent rainfall, we are postponing this Saturday's Fall Creek Canoe Cleanup. The safety of our volunteers always comes first…and right now, the creek is telling us to wait.

We're targeting a new date in early June and will share details as soon as they're confirmed. Thank you for your understanding and your continued commitment to the river.

As an All At Once Non-Profit Partner, we are hosting two volunteer canoe cleanups on Fall Creek this month. All volunteers who register and attend one of those cleanups will be entered to win a free pair of Jack Johnson tickets for the concert on July 4th at Ruoff Music Center!

🌿 Paddle with a Purpose 🌿

Join us on Saturday, May 9th (8:30am–12:30pm) for a Fall Creek Canoe Clean-Up: A hands-on way to give back to one of Indy’s most important waterways.

We’ll hit the water by canoe, work together to remove trash and debris, and leave Fall Creek better than we found it. Canoeing experience is suggested, as Fall Creek can be quicker and narrower than the White River. You also will need a willingness to get a little wet and a little dirty for a good cause.

🛶 Canoes, paddles & safety gear provided
🤝 Guided, team-based cleanup on the water
🌎 Open to individuals, friends, families & groups

Huge thanks all around to all of our volunteers and partners who showed up this past Saturday for our annual Spring Downtown Cleanup along the White River! We had 72 volunteers in attendance, and they all worked tirelessly to help remove an estimated 85 tons of trash from the riverbanks! That number is both alarming and amazing at the same time. Incredible work by everyone who attended, and we give a special thanks to Citizens Energy Group, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc., & Frank's Paddlesports Livery for partnering with us on this cleanup!
