At 3:30 AM Wednesday morning I got a phone call from a frantic dog owner that their dog was lost in a cornfield and could we go look for it. No, I'm sorry but we cannot for a couple of reasons. One, we can't use trailing dogs to find missing animals (has to do with court), and two, it's too dangerous. I hate to tell someone no and that the chances of the animal coming to them is slim, but it's a reality. We cannot put a person in harm's way to find a missing dog that should never be loose around a cornfield. So please people, don't allow your dog to roam free around them. Cornfields are confusing to them. Their sense of hearing is muffled by the vegetation and their sense of direction is hampered by everything looking exactly the same and the sense of smell being stagnated by dense vegetation and little air flow. So please, be careful. That call was the 6th call I've taken this summer.
