The Hoosier National Forest is considering closing approximately three miles of Tower Ridge Road between Todd Cemetery and the Grubb Ridge Trailhead to motor vehicles 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀.

𝗛𝗠𝗕𝗔 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗶𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀.

There is important history here.

When Congress established the Charles C. Deam Wilderness in 1982, Tower Ridge Road was intentionally left outside the Wilderness boundary as part of the compromise surrounding its creation. The Wilderness lies on both sides of the road, but 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.

HMBA has a long and proud history of bringing responsible mountain biking and outdoor recreation to Brown County and throughout Indiana. While we have handed the baton of some of that work to others, we continue to support the organizations, volunteers, advocates, and riders carrying it forward.

Tower Ridge Road is an important connection for mountain bikers, gravel cyclists, road cyclists, and events such as the Gravel Grovel and Death March. With gravel cycling continuing to grow, eliminating bicycle access would remove an important piece of Southern Indiana’s cycling network.

𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗞 𝗨𝗣.

The Forest Service is accepting public comments through 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟰.

We encourage every cyclist who values access to our public lands to respectfully submit a comment and explain why Tower Ridge Road should remain open to bicycles.
