Baby is the purrrrfect cat for someone out there. Lots of people ask why Indy Neighborhood Cats has cats going up for adoption. We TNR thousands of cats every year. Over 13,000 since we began work. In the last five years, the number of cats that were abandoned on the streets and end up in one of our traps has increased 400%. We paid almost $18,000 in clinic costs on cats that were house pets at one time but wound up at a colony not knowing why they were put out on the streets. Please visit Nine Lives Café & Cat Lounge and see what amazing cats are there. Through our partnership with IndyAdopts Foundation, these cats are going back into homes, to a life they were accustomed to. Not every cat can survive the streets. You can give them back that life.

❤️🌟Help us get Baby adopted and share her story!🌟❤️

Baby has been waiting to be adopted at our cat foster home inside Nine Lives Café & Cat Lounge for over a month now! Let's get her adopted into her forever home!

Baby came to IndyAdopts! through our partnership with Indy Neighborhood Cats. You can adopt Felicity by visiting IndyAdopts' cat foster home at Nine Lives Café & Cat Lounge.

We need your help for a very full month of medical cases and TNR/Spay Neuter

Indy Neighborhood Cats is currently caring for 48 cats and kittens in 8 different foster homes, while also completing more than 200 spay/neuter surgeries this month, registering dozens of new clients, and helping more caretakers and pet owners sign up for support through the FIDO/INC Pet Food Pantry.

And this week has included several cats who needed urgent or ongoing medical care.

Khloe developed a life-threatening pyometra and required an emergency spay.

Crooked Tail was found with a large mass in her front left chest/arm area. West Michigan Street Veterinary Clinic completed diagnostics and has scheduled surgery to remove it.

Frankie and Honey came to us as mama cats after their kittens were safely transferred into the IndyHumane foster program. After five weeks of caring for their babies in foster, these two moms bonded — and both have had their own medical struggles requiring extended recovery. Honey is now at Nine Lives Café & Cat Lounge looking for her forever home, while Frankie is still healing from skin issues before she can take that next step.

Casper was having trouble at a managed colony and volunteers reached out for help. He had a bad open wound on one of his ears. After sending to Indianapolis Animal Urgent Care he had a bad ear infection and recieved a good amount of medication and pain control. He will recover for a couple of days and his caretakers will monitor to see he is healing up.

Three tiny babies were found at an IMPD lot and cared for by Gina after Officer Randy Dodd reached out to INC for help. They are now safe in foster and will be headed to IndyHumane next week once they are weaned.

Sunny Boy was a cat who lived in a home that was recently vacated. He was left behind and INC got him all fixed up. Problem is, he has some issues with his back leg which have healed up. He will always walk silly but he is the sweetest boy who would do better inside a home again. He will be going to the cafe for adoption very soon.

We also received a call from Indianapolis Animal Care Services asking for help with a feral mama who had given birth at the shelter. She is now resting in foster while she raises her babies outside of the shelter environment.

Don't forget Mr. Max who we have been monitoring. He was at the cafe for adoption when something started happening. Once thought that he had lymphoma, we sent him to our friends at Hotel Bravo to get more diagnostics. Indy Neighborhood Cats is covering his care. Thanks to great veterinary partners at Michigan Road Animal Hospital At Crooked Creek, we have found that Max does NOT have lymphoma. We are still working to identify what is causing his lymphatic system inflammation, we know this can be treated and he will be on his way to a forever home soon.

And over spay day weekend at FACE, two more litters were born in traps — adding even more tiny lives to the INC foster network.

This is all happening alongside the daily work of keeping cats moving through surgery, helping new caretakers get registered, supporting neighborhood volunteers, and making sure colonies have food when caretakers are struggling.

This Friday, we will be picking up a generous donation of wet food thanks to IndyHumane and Rescue Relief. It will help colony caretakers and volunteers, but with the number of cats depending on this support, it will go fast.

This is the work behind the work. We are known for TNR, but so many of these cats need more than surgery day. They need emergency care, diagnostics, recovery time, foster homes, transport, food, medication, and a path forward.

When you donate to Indy Neighborhood Cats, you are helping people help cats — and giving vulnerable cats and kittens the medical care and safety they need when there is nowhere else for them to go.

Get a chance to save a life and adopt or sign up to foster with Indianapolis Animal Care Services. Their new pet adoption center is amazing however, there is a huge sea of cats outside due to limited intake for years now.

The best way to help is to take action where you can:

Adopt a cat from IACS.
Sign up to foster with IACS.
Use available spay/neuter resources and help get every outdoor cat you see fixed, vaccinated, and ear-tipped.

Indy Neighborhood Cats can help make that happen, but our current capacity is about 200 cats per month — and the need far outweighs what any one organization can do alone. The more people who step in, the more cats we can help together.

If you’re interested in accessing our Be Somebody campaign, it includes links to clinics and programs offering community cat packages directly to the public. Some financial assistance may be available, depending on resources and need. Send an email to [email protected] and we will get that info out to you!

❤️🐾 MAX UPDATE: THE NEWS WE WERE HOPING FOR! 🐾❤️

A few weeks ago, we introduced you to Max.

This handsome 2-year-old boy was found at an apartment complex by a caretaker who quickly realized he didn't belong outside. Max was friendly, easygoing, and clearly looking for the indoor home he once knew. Through our partnership with
Nine Lives Café & Cat Lounge, he was placed for adoption and seemed to be on his way to a bright future.

Then he became seriously ill.

Max was lethargic, his lymph nodes were severely swollen, and he stopped eating. After emergency veterinary care, testing, biopsies, and specialist consultations, lymphoma became a very real possibility. We prepared ourselves for the worst while making sure Max was surrounded by love and comfort. Hotel Bravo agreed to help give Max a safe place to be for whatever time was left.

Today, we are thrilled to share some incredible news from our friends at Hotel Bravo:

🎉 MAX DOES NOT HAVE LYMPHOMA! 🎉

While additional testing revealed that Max is FIV-positive, the latest biopsy and lab work ruled out lymphoma. We are all breathing a little easier. So is the team at Hotel Bravo and thanks to Michigan Road Animal Hospital At Crooked Creek and Indianapolis Animal Urgent Care

The mystery isn't completely solved yet. Max still has significant lymph node swelling, and follow-up appointments and diagnostics are needed to determine exactly what is causing his symptoms. But there is more good news...

❤️ He has gained a full pound.
❤️ He is eating well.
❤️ He is feeling better.
❤️ He has started playing with Fast Eddie.
❤️ His personality is shining through.

Most importantly, Max is happy, comfortable, and surrounded by people who adore him.

What many people don't see is the cost that comes with giving cats like Max every chance possible. Between emergency visits, specialty consultations, lab work, biopsies, medications, and ongoing follow-up care, Max's medical expenses have already exceeded $1,200—and we are not finished searching for answers.

Indy Neighborhood Cats committed to helping Max when he needed us. We are covering his medical care because every cat deserves the opportunity to heal, regardless of how complicated the diagnosis becomes.

If you would like to help offset Max's medical expenses and support future cats facing similar medical challenges, please consider making a donation today.

ARPO - Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership urgently needs our community’s help finding out what happened to one of their former foster cats, Harvey.

Harvey was adopted in 2021 in the Coatesville area along with another ARPO cat. Sadly, that other cat was recently found abandoned in a crate outside a vet clinic in Irvington.

After several attempts to reach the adopter, ARPO learned that he passed away in early April. We believe this may be why one of the cats was left at the clinic, but Harvey’s whereabouts are still unknown.

ARPO has reached out to every contact they could find connected to the adopter. The only information they have received so far is that the family believes Harvey may have been rehomed by a friend. The family lives out of state and does not know what happened to the cats.

The photos included are about 5 years old, but please keep an eye out for this sweet orange tabby if you are in or around the Coatesville or Irvington areas.

Harvey is microchipped to ARPO under the name “Harvest.”

ARPO simply wants to make sure Harvey is safe and healthy. If you have seen him, know where he may be, or have any information at all, please email:

[email protected]

Please share so we can help get answers for Harvey.

🐾 It Takes a Village — and Showed Up Big This Weekend!

While part of was out at PurrCon, another amazing crew was hard at work behind the scenes for Indy Neighborhood Cats at the warehouse. On Friday, 25 volunteers from Walker spent a few hours cutting trap covers, cleaning carriers, and making cat toys — proving our mission is powered by an incredible community working in many places at once.

We were also able to clean and sanitize the used cat carriers from INC transport and dog carriers from the double transport week for FIDO Indy

A special shoutout goes to Liz Wallshield, a dedicated weekly warehouse volunteer from Walker who helps with inventory management, cleaning, and even assisted INC with our first annual volunteer survey to help improve the volunteer experience.

And to top it all off, Walker made a generous $1,500 donation to support our mission. 💖

Thank you to everyone who helped show that is bigger than any one event, project, or group of people — it’s a community.

What a great way to spend a weekend. 🐾

PurrCon at PopCon - The Ultimate Cat Lovers Weekend — was one amazing event for year two! We met so many wonderful people, connected with fellow cat lovers, and felt so much love from clients, partners, and supporters alike. Thank you to KJ McGlinn for creating an event that brings together, awareness, entertainment, and joy.

A huge thank you to every volunteer who came out to help work the booth, talk about Indy Neighborhood Cats, load in, load out, and represent with so much heart. Events like this help us raise awareness, build community, and remind people that community cat work is about more than cats — it’s about the neighbors, caretakers, volunteers, and partners working together to make Indianapolis better.

And now… it’s time to get ready for the next big spay day. 💪🐱

Because after the fun, the mission continues: fixing cats, stopping the cycle, supporting caretakers, and helping Indianapolis become a city that can sustain real, meaningful change for outdoor cat populations.

Thank you for standing with Indy Neighborhood Cats.
Onward, !
