Indiana Public Health Association APHA Council of Affiliates Outstanding Affiliate, 2022. Advocating for Indiana's public health. Let us know at [email protected].

The Indiana Public Health Association was formed in 1946 to unify efforts for advancing public health in the state of Indiana. Starting with only 26 members, the Association grew to over 600 members within two years. An annual meeting was established, committees were formed and IPHA became an affiliate of the American Public Health Association. In 1997, through a grant from the Indiana State Department of Health, IPHA hired its first full-time staff person. Today, IPHA continues on the foundation created over seventy years ago by bringing together health care providers, environmental health professionals, registrars and educators in partnership with Indiana communities to be a voice for the health of the public. Posting Guidelines:
-Be kind and courteous when commenting.
-No hate speech, bullying, or political promotion will be allowed on the page. We are working toward health equity for Indiana, and it takes all of us working together to reach our goal!
-Do you have questions or concerns about IPHA?

Iliana from our team spent the last few days in Brown County at the 2026 Partner Information X-Change: Navigating the Trails, hosted by the Indiana Department of Health at Abe Martin Lodge. A highlight was the advocacy panel walking through how to tell your story to lawmakers using "hook, line and sinker." Start with who you are, share why the issue matters to you, then make the ask.

Mark your calendars for To***co Free Indiana’s Advocacy Day on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2027, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Indiana Statehouse. Register: https://lung.quorum.us/event/37457/

TFI's Annual Meeting is also coming up on Tuesday, Nov. 17, on Zoom. Register: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/QSVgTUQrSWOg_7Qcv-M_cw

We’re excited to shine a light on one of our summit sponsors, the Kendrick Foundation, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary! 🎉 Over the past 25 years, the foundation has grown into a community-focused nonprofit working to improve health and wellbeing for everyone in Morgan County. Its work starts from a simple belief: every resident should have the opportunity to be healthy and thrive. The foundation puts that belief into action through health-focused grants and scholarships, and by partnering with others to make the healthy choice the easy choice in Morgan County. Since its founding, the foundation has invested more than $20 million in grants and community initiatives and awarded nearly 700 scholarships. It also stewards more than $30 million in assets so that impact can keep growing for years to come.

Happy 25th, Kendrick Foundation, and thank you for supporting the summit!

October is Indoor Air Quality Awareness Month. Poor indoor air quality is linked to asthma attacks, illness, fatigue and increased missed school days for both students and school staff. Children are especially vulnerable, spending up to half of their waking hours inside school buildings.

Through the Clean Air School Challenge, the American Lung Association supports schools nationwide with training, technical assistance, and peer collaboration to improve indoor air quality and create healthier learning environments.

How do we talk about public health when people can't agree on much of anything?

Dr. Nir Menachemi is tackling that question as our keynote speaker at the Policy and Advocacy Summit. His talk, "Communicating (about public health) Across Political Divides," gets at one of the hardest parts of this work right now.

Nir is Dean of the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IU Indianapolis. He's spent his career working alongside health system and public health leaders to understand how policy and organizational decisions shape health outcomes. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers, and his work gets real attention from both researchers and the media.

If you want to make the case for public health to people who don't already agree with you, this is a session you'll want to be in the room for. Register today: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/ipha-policy-summit

📣 Public health policy in Indiana gets decided whether we show up or not. The IPHA Policy & Advocacy Summit is about showing up together.

🏛️ Join us on Zoom Tuesday, October 27, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We'll spend the morning on where public health stands heading into the 2027 legislative session and how our members can speak with one voice when it counts.
