Like many of you, we were horrified by the video of the rigging failure at Hong Kong Coliseum Thursday night. We support the growing petition for improved stage safety and call for a thorough investigation into the causes of the tragedy. Accidents of this nature are entirely avoidable when best practices are followed and safety is made the number one priority at all shows. The injured are in our thoughts, and we wish them a speedy and full recovery.

Tour Heroes. Today we pay tribute to our monitor engineer the Great Xavier Gendron. Yesterday, during the performance in Mainz he was stung by a wasp directly inside his left ear. That’s a painful problem for any sound engineer to deal with but X is also allergic to these little fu***rs. As he continued to run monitors for the show his throat started closing up. Our intrepid stage manager was able to rustle up a team of medics to give him a shot to suppress the allergic reaction and then they attached a drip to keep him going. Here he is adjusting levels while the stage manager holds the drip up. In total this incident resulted in zero downtime. He kept going and only complained in French. The band wasn’t even aware anything had happened till after the show. That’s some serious pro s**t right there. The show must go on!

On the left is STSF President Jake May, and on the right, touring video pro Scott. Scott and his wife Lori were among the nearly 1 million entertainment industry professionals who lost their livelihood in 2020 when the pandemic closed the world down. Despite the challenges of 2020, their sweet daughter decided to forego holiday presents, asking instead to put what she would get into helping feed those in Nashville who had even less and volunteering her time to realize that goal. Much to her surprise, that little girl and several others found a shiny new bike under the tree, made possible by your incredibly generous donations.

We are so thankful that Scott and Lori are back practicing their craft, and for the gig that made this photo op possible. They are truly the best of us. On this , as you consider where to make your mark, please consider a donation to Save The Show Foundation.

We are devastated to learn of the death of crew member Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust. Although we don’t yet know the full details of what went wrong, this tragedy again illustrates that the health and safety of the crew must always take precedence over the production. Sadly, that is often not the case. We must do better. Our thoughts are with her family and colleagues this afternoon.

Today marks 10 years since the tragedy at the Indiana State Fair. Our thoughts remain with those injured, and the families of those who died, including Nate “Save the Show” Byrd, in whose memory this organization was named.

We learned hard lessons that day, and we owe it to the victims to never repeat the mistakes that were made. Stay safe out there!!!
