Indianapolis 5K Peace Walk at Washington Park...

National Medical Association Launches National 5K Peace Walk to Promote Safety, Healing, and Community Connection

Multi-city public health initiative invited communities to walk in solidarity with youth and families affected by violence.

The National Medical Association (NMA), through its Violence Prevention Council chaired by Dr. Michael McGee, launched a major national public health initiative with local NMA societies across the country to help communities’ advance safety, healing, and prevention.

Community members were invited to participate in the National 5K Peace Walk, a gathering that honors teens and families affected by violence while promoting a public health approach to youth peace and community well-being.

Locally hosted by Dr. Virginia Caine and the Marion County Public Health Department, the Indianapolis walk brought together neighbors, health professionals, youth advocates, and community organizations committed to prevention, support, and shared action.

Date: Saturday, September 12, 2026
Location: Washington Park, Shelter #2, 34th and Dearborn, Indianapolis

Led nationally by Dr. Michael McGee, Chair of the National Medical Association Violence Prevention Council, and hosted locally by Dr. Virginia Caine and the Marion County Public Health Department, the walk will bring neighbors, health professionals, youth advocates, and community organizations together with a shared commitment to healing, safety, and prevention.

Please join us and invite your colleagues, family, friends, and neighbors to walk in solidarity and help build a safer, healthier future for our young people. Together, we can turn hope into action and strengthen the support available to youth and families throughout our community.

Hello, there are still openings for the 13th annual TALKS - Identifying The Mirror in ME overnight retreat, scheduled for July 6th - 10th. For an application, please contact Beatrice at [email protected] OR [email protected].

There are guest speakers, zip lining, workshops, ice cream making, beach time and so much more!!!

Young ladies ages 12 - 16 AND you can return if you have already attended for 2 years. Our youth need fun and safe activities to do over the summer months.

Sitting here reflecting over the past years❣️

For 12 years, Stop the Violence Indianapolis has held space for healing, reflection, and transformation through our annual "TALKS" Identifying the Mirror in Me retreat and the impact is undeniable.

On July 7, we’ll head out for another powerful week of truth telling, breakthrough, new experiences, and sisterhood at Pyoca Camp and Retreat Center

Over the years, more than 300 young ladies have come through this program, each one a seed planted with love, intention, and purpose.

Me, along with our incredible staff, guest speakers, and workshop facilitators, have remained faithful to this calling; while, pouring into every girl with everything we have and we’ll continue to do this work until GOD says this assignment is complete.

SIDE NOTE: Today, someone called me and said that I truly blessed them and that they were/are honored to have been part of something so life changing.

I REALLY needed to hear that today and YES I cried!!!

For 12 years, we have welcomed over 300 young ladies to this transformative experience, where they’ve discovered new skills, built lifelong relationships/friendships, and walked away with dreams of what could be.
