FIDO Indy is a non-profit, animal advocacy organization formed in 2005 that works with dog owners to improve the quality of life for their dogs. FIDO Indy partners with Indianapolis residents to find alternatives to continuous chaining as a method of dog containment while promoting the Indianapolis Dog Care & Treatment ordinances. One of our goals is to make it easier and more convenient for owner

s to bring their dogs inside the home to be part of the family. Outreach and sharing humane education is a large part of the work we do at FIDO Indy. We offer supplies and services to residents who are interested in working with us to improve their dogs’ quality of life. FIDO Indy partners with other organizations to provide spay/neuter assistance, which we require, for the dogs we serve. Our services are provided for free or at a nominal fee. Major kudos to all the fine folks from Hamilton Ex who volunteered with FIDO Indy yesterday. We were blown away by their willingness to jump right in from the get-go.

There were 20 volunteers, and in a period of 2 hours, they completed a massive amount of work. They never stopped working at full tilt the entire time. As you can see in the photo, no one stood to pose, because they were too busy working.

They sorted a large quantity of dog and cat food, packaged the food in a variety of sizes, cleaned and repaired fence panels, and even helped cut down out-of-control weeds outside around our fence materials compound.

Hamilton Ex is short for Hamilton Exhibits. They create cool exhibits for events. Check them out at https://hamilton-ex.com.

Earlier this week our spay/neuter team was able to capture some beautiful pictures of the pups on their transport list.

First up is Gimbo, very sweet pup who also received medications for a mild skin infection.
Next we have Bella smelling the flowers. she lives with three other males so we made sure to get her in quickly to prevent any accidental litters. The three males have been scheduled for their neuters.
Shyly approaching the camera is miss Lucy. She had a wound on her ear that the clinic cleaned up and sent home antibiotics to clear up any brewing ear infection.
Then there is sweet Piper, being held by longtime volunteer Rachel. Piper had a litter of puppies in early March and declared she was done with being a mom. Now she no longer has to worry about future litters.
Finally, we have Princess showing off her marvelous sploot. As you can see, she has a cleft lip that makes her smile extra cute and unique.

All of these dogs were fixed thanks to your support. If you would like to donate to help more dogs have access to spay/neuter services, you can donate here: https://fidoindy.org/donate/

Then we had a duo of adorable pitties come in, Buddy and Cinnamon! While we do not require pets to attend new client registration, it always makes our day. 💚

Our new client registration is on Thursdays from 1pm - 6pm, arrival for check-in by 5pm*.

Dog #215

We took Baxter to IndyHumane last week for adoption. He is a sweet, playful 6 month old pup. Likely a mix between a boxer and an Australian shepherd based upon his appearance. His family was threatened with eviction and they needed a quick place for Baxter to go and be safe. We can't turn these dogs away when they have no other options. So we cared for Baxter short-term at our warehouse because he and our warehouse cats could coexist peacefully. We aren't a shelter, but we can usually figure out a way to provide a stop-gap safe haven until we can get these dogs into a shelter.

Again and again, Indyhumane is that shelter that we can reach out to and they come through for us. Maybe not immediately. It might be a few days or a couple of months, but they always take the dog. Baxter is the 215th dog in dire straits that Indyhumane has taken in from us in the past year and a half. We are so grateful for this partnership that provides a new lease on life for so many dogs.

Yesterday was a crazy long, busy, productive day.

We started our day yesterday at 5:45 am by Brett and Darcie picking up 9 dogs from 7 different homes and transporting them to Lebanon Veterinary Clinic for spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchips.

Then Brett, Lynn, and Krista headed out at 10:00 am for two fence builds.

Nick and Tori also headed out at that time for outreach home visits for the next several hours.

Next, Dr Baker arrived at 10:30 am and treated the dog Buggz here in our parking lot. Buggz had been attacked and bitten multiple times by a loose dog. Buggz was contained on a leash at the time of the attack. Buggz lives with Ashley, her husband, and a cat in their truck. Then Heidi and Dr Baker headed out for veterinary home visits throughout the afternoon.

Then Brett, Dawn with Indy Neighborhood Cats, Dee, and Laura, staffed new client registration here at the warehouse from 1 to 6 pm, serving 12 new clients and their collective dogs and cats.

Finally, Genevieve and Darcie headed back to Lebanon around 2:30 pm to pick up the 9 dogs and return them all back home after spay/neuter. One of the dogs had an unexpected complication likely due to a genetic bleeding disorder and Dr Falcone spent almost two extra hours providing the pooch expert care in order to safely send him back home. Our day finally ended at 8 pm last night after all the pups had been returned back home.

When you support FIDO Indy with your financial gifts, this is the nitty-gritty, boots on the ground work you are supporting. When the work needs done, we figure out how to get it done. And we cannot do this work without the community's partnership and support. For that, we are grateful.

Meet Jasper!

He is one of the many pups we've gotten to help via our programs. Today our case managers went out to drop off some dog food and supplies. Jasper has been fighting seasonal allergies that our volunteer vet has been keeping an eye on so we also checked him out to make sure his allergies were still under control.

Of course, Jasper was extremely happy to see us stop by and covered us in slobbery puppy kisses. Absolutely made our day to see him and his mom doing well!

Meet Sasha and Zeus!

This was a fence build that our team had to get creative with. Sasha and Zeus are just two of the dogs in the home. Some of the pups don't always get along with each other. So with this build we built two kennels with space in-between that we refer to as a no-dog land. This makes it so that the dogs can be safely let outside for playtime and potty breaks.

And as you may have noticed, Sasha has quite the jump on her. So one of the kennels we pre-emptively added a ceiling to to ensure that she won't be able to jump or climb her way out.

All you FIDO Indy supporters out there, this fundraiser will directly support spay/neuter costs for the dogs of FIDO Indy clients. The vast majority of funds raised through this Indyhumane fundraiser, will provide free spay/neuter with vaccinations and a microchip to the large breed dogs of FIDO Indy clients. When you donate to this fundraiser, you are donating to FIDO Indy.

We have a great partnership with Indyhumane: we find the dogs in many of the most disadvantaged households in our city, and we get these dogs scheduled and transported to Indyhumane. Then the Indyhumane veterinary staff at their Indyhumane Downtown Clinic provides the expert direct veterinary care.

It's a win-win. All we need is your funding support to get many more dogs in need fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped. FIDO Indy has a goal at least 1,000 dogs this year. Together, we are addressing the root of our local dog welfare crisis through targeted spay/neuter. Please be part of the team.

Indianapolis is facing an overpopulation crisis, and chances are, you’ve seen it firsthand. Dogs roaming the streets. Shelters filled with more puppies than ever before. Families struggling to afford spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, and microchips for the pets they love.

That’s why we’re bringing back Operation Pit Stop.
In partnership with Wings of Rescue, every dollar donated will be MATCHED up to $7,500 to help provide spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, and microchips for large-breed dogs in our community.

Large-breed dogs are often the ones left behind. They stay in shelters the longest and face the greatest risk when space runs out. Without access to affordable spay and neuter services, the cycle continues. Just one unspayed female dog and her offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies in six years.

Your support helps:
• Prevent unwanted litters
• Reduce strain on overcrowded shelters
• Keep pets healthier and safer
• Give dogs a better chance at finding homes

And right now, your impact goes twice as far:
$50 becomes $100
$100 becomes $200
$195 can provide TWO surgeries instead of one

Our goal is to raise $25,000 to help up to 130 large-breed dogs in Indianapolis. The overpopulation crisis is something we can fix together. Will you help us stop the cycle?

We could never say thank you enough to our good friends at Golden Post Kennel. They have stepped up time and time again when we have had dogs come into our care in need of an immediate safe haven. This sweet shepherd was found by FIDO staff on their way home after a busy day of transporting pets for our spay/neuter assistance program. Golden Post staff let us come down to their facility the very next day. Now this shepherd is happy and safe while we work with our rescue partners to transfer them into their care.
