FIDO Indy is a non-profit, animal advocacy organization formed in 2005 that works with dog owners to improve the quality of life for their dogs. FIDO Indy partners with Indianapolis residents to find alternatives to continuous chaining as a method of dog containment while promoting the Indianapolis Dog Care & Treatment ordinances. One of our goals is to make it easier and more convenient for owners to bring their dogs inside the home to be part of the family. Outreach and sharing humane education is a large part of the work we do at FIDO Indy. We offer supplies and services to residents who are interested in working with us to improve their dogs’ quality of life. FIDO Indy partners with other organizations to provide spay/neuter assistance, which we require, for the dogs we serve. Our services are provided for free or at a nominal fee. As the weekend comes to a close, we had another shake-up to the standings. Max climbed his way to the top in style. He's sitting pretty at 300 votes.

In second place, hot on Max's tail, is Honey! She is a former FIDO warehouse pup turned into a Autumn model. She is currently at 276 votes. Does she have what it takes to take back the lead?

In third is one of our newest entrants: Huckleberry. He took a break from his very important squirrel befriending mission to pose for his photo. He quickly reached 155 votes, will he quickly earn more with his friendly face?

And finally in fourth is Countess Hershey, the friendliest vampire in all of Indy. Her fangs are only used to show off her dazzling smile. She is sitting at 150 votes and could quickly pull ahead again.

When out on outreach, our case managers are always on the lookout for dogs in need, including dogs running loose in the street. As soon as they spotted these adorable dogs trotting along the sidewalk, our case managers pulled over. The first dog came right up for treats and was easily led into the FIDO van to hang out while the other case manager worked to catch the more nervous dog.

Luckily, a school bus stopped on the street and one of the students was their owner! Apparently the pups had been escaping his family's fenced in yard whenever they would be let outside. After confirming ownership, the other dog was returned for a joyous reunion.

We have EXCITING news to share!

Thanks to some anonymous supporters we now have a have a match for $6,500 for our Frightful Furball! That means if we hit our goal of raising $10,000 for our veterinary outreach program, that we will get at total of $6,500!!! Every $1 vote you cast will help hlp us get that match. So far, you've helped us raise $902 towards our $10,000 goal!

Outreach on a beautiful autumn day.

Our case managers were out in the streets and alleys of our city doing outreach yesterday. For dogs that spend a lot of time outside, this time of year is ideal for them. Cool nights and sunny, warm days. The pesky fly and mosquito populations are down (although fleas are still peaking now). Our case managers primarily look for dogs kept outside in less than ideal conditions and reach out to their families with information and direct assistance.

The three pooches in the photos here all appeared to be happy, healthy, likely mostly inside dogs out enjoying the nice day running in their large fenced yards. Although they might not need a quality of life upgrade, we still talk to their owners and offer resources such as spay/neuter and information such as our local animal ordinances. We provide them our informational brochures since circumstances can change quickly and you never know when people may need some help from their friends at FIDO Indy.

DEADLINE, MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!

Great deal on large inside dog crates until midnight tonight on Amazon Prime. If anyone wants to send us a crate that will help us stock up before the cold weather hits. Inside training crates are a great tool for us to help get outside dogs inside the warm house. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts if you can help with this.

Recently we had a spay/neuter transport that contained all pets from the same neighborhood. It was great getting to see everyone get reunited with their beloved pets at the end of the day. And we want to help more of our Marion County neighbors in financial need get their pups fixed.

W do ask for a $50 contribution per pet to help us offset our costs, though we do work with clients who are unable to cover this fee. This contribution goes toward the cost of the procedure, which comes to an average of $207 per dog. This includes the spay/neuter surgery, updating rabies and distemper-parvo vaccinations, a nail trim, and a microchip if needed. Our program also handles the scheduling and transportation to make the process as easy as possible.

If you are a Marion County resident in need of help, please come to our New Client Registration hours. They occur every Thursday from 1pm-6pm. Please arrive for check-in by 5pm.*
Please bring the following to registration:
-Photo ID (such as a driver's license, state ID, or consular ID)
-Dated proof of financial need (paystub, public assistance award letter)
-Proof of Marion county residency
-A mobile phone with talk or text capability
*Please note that we reserve the right to close the registration line early due to high volume or extenuating circumstances.

A hungry hungry caterpillar has entered My Frightful Furball! What is he hungry for? Your votes!

Conan was originally a stray cat living near the downtown spay/neuter clinic. This fluffy guy was so loving and sweet that he would jump into people's cars to say hi! Knowing that it wasn't safe for him to be doing so, and considering he had a love for people, we brought him home to the FIDO Indy warehouse. He is now our Water Cooler Manager and always up for cuddles.

The Lilly Scholars Network connects current and former Lilly Scholarship recipients with resources and opportunities to further their leadership, civic pride, and community engagement. Every two years the members come together for their INfuse Summit, a weekend where they gather to volunteer at local organizations and connect.

FIDO Indy is incredibly grateful to have been chosen as one nonprofits the summit supported this year. The group that came to the warehouse were excited and ready to get to work! Here's a breakdown of everything they accomplished in just a few hours!

Packaged over 2,500 lbs of dog and cat food for Pet Food Pantry distribution
Prepared over 200 flea treatments for Pet Food Pantry distribution
Bagged about 20 33-gallon bags of straw for Pet Food Pantry distribution
Broke down 10 old wire crates to be repurposed in future fence builds

On top of all of that, six Lilly Scholars accompanied FIDO staff to an offsite location that provides us and our partner organization, Indy Neighborhood Cats, with free warehouse space. At this location they helped us move 200 Styrofoam coolers so that FIDO staff could pick up items we had set aside for our Fall Flea Market.
