✨ BookTopia Was a Success! 📚🎉

While we had a small group this time, the impact was BIG! Our BookTopia event welcomed a few amazing young readers who had a blast diving into literacy through:
🎲 Silly word games
📖 Choosing a book to take home
✏️ Creating their very own storybooks

Moments like these remind us that it’s not about the numbers—it’s about creating meaningful, memorable experiences that inspire a love for reading. 💛

A HUGE thank you to Pizza Hut for donating pizza and to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for donating movie tickets for our raffle. Lakeshore Learning came through with some great craft ideas and donated our theme book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. 🐛 Your generosity helped make this event extra special! 🍕🎬

Little Scholars Youth Center of Indy is excited to offer StoryBuilders Club, a grant-funded after-school program designed to strengthen literacy, confidence, and social-emotional skills through stories, discussion, and hands-on activities.

No new childcare vouchers until 2027!

The State of Indiana continues to transform under Governor Mike Braun — and families needing assistance are feeling it the most.

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) has announced it will freeze all new child care vouchers until at least 2027, effectively cutting off access to affordable childcare for thousands of low-income families.

Nearly 31,000 Hoosier children are already on a waitlist, while dozens of childcare centers have been forced to close since the freeze began.

FSSA officials claim the move is about “containing costs” and correcting “over-enrollment” from pandemic-era aid — but providers say the state is balancing its budget on the backs of working parents. Many small childcare centers have seen reimbursement rates slashed by as much as 35%, leaving owners and families scrambling to cover the gap.

For many, this latest decision defines “Mike Braun’s Indiana” — a version of the state where tax breaks and budget surpluses take priority while working-class families face deeper struggles to make ends meet.

Should the state be applauded for financial discipline, or condemned for leaving thousands of children without care options?
