The Desmond Tutu Center We seek to understand, enhance, and impact the local and global discourse around peace, reconciliation, and global justice.

The Desmond Tutu Center is North America’s only academic center in a university and seminary context named for Archbishop Emeritus Tutu is a collaborative effort of Butler University and the Christian Theological Seminary. The center, launched on September 12, 2013, will focus on leadership development in social justice and reconciliation, international relationships, and interreligious bridge-building.

What a wonderful way to start the day! Alas, today's Youth Fellow feature is our last South African Fellow Loide Ndemueda. Loide is from Bela Bela, Limpopo but is currently in London, UK with an NGO and a youth burn survivor. Loide's project aims to work with young people who have been affected with any kind of scar (as a result of a traumatic event) to accept themselves and become more self-confident in who they are. Hello world! Today’s South African Youth Fellow feature is Chumisa Ketelo-Matiwane. Chumisa’s Project, Girls Ahead aims to be a resource for young girls by working with them to set personal and academic goals first and then reach them through mentor ship and skill development. Her program will start at Lmizamoyethu (a government school in George, Western Cape) and will be brought to her hometown of Khayelitsha in a few years. Cailynn’s Lotus Project empowers girls between the ages of 11-12 in Lotus River (Cape Town) to open up about their life experiences and build self awareness.
