Indy Urban Acres Indy Urban Acres Fox59 announced a new partnership with Indy Urban Acres Wednesday. You’ll also have an opportunity to volunteer with Fox59’s staff!

The station is joining Indy Parks and the Indy Parks Foundation, along with IU Health, Gleaners Food Bank, and an organic farm that grows fresh fruits and vegetables for families in need. The organic farm is located on eight acres just east of Shadeland Avenue, between Interstate 70 and 21st Street. The state had used the land as a staging ground for I-70 construction work but decided to donate it

to Indy Parks back in 2007. Volunteers worked to plant seeds last year and now, Fox59 will help make it bigger, growing even more fresh produce and helping the fight against obesity, diabetes and hunger. Over the next few months, you’ll see stories of the community coming together and helping many families.

Indy Urban Acres is a unique partnership between the City of Indianapolis Parks and Recreation Department, Indiana University Health and the Indianapolis Parks Foundation to provide fresh produce to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. Fox59 is celebrating the kickoff of Fox59's Indy Urban Acres for 2012. This initiative is designed to help provide low income Hoosiers with healthy fruits and vegetables. The project is located near 21st Street and Shadeland Ave on the east side on 8 acres of land owned by Indy Parks. During the year crops will be harvested and sent to Gleaners Food Bank for distribution throughout the community. Fox59 General Manager Larry Delia talks about the stations participation in the initiative.
