Department of Yes Enlivening public places by saying YES to creativity, fun, surprise and play. We help them become part of the shared joy of our city.

With the Yes Initiative and the Department of Yes, the nonprofit creativity organization Big Car works to use art-based ideas and approaches to improve the quality of life for people in Indianapolis. We do this through projects and events that encourage people to be creative, curious, adventurous, connected, healthy and happy. CREATIVE — we bring kids and adults opportunities to make art, record o

r write stories, make music, and see that everyone can and should create. CURIOUS — we encourage people to ask why and how things work and participate in joining others in finding these answers. ADVENTUROUS — we ask people to take chances, try new things, go new places, see and learn new things. TOLERANT — often using collaboration, we bring people of different backgrounds and cultures together to learn from each other. CONNECTED — people often feel disconnected from the arts, cultural and community offerings in Indianapolis. HEALTHY — our activities include physical aspects like playing, walking and cycling. And we focus on encouraging healthy eating and nutrition with projects related to urban gardening, cooking and dining. HAPPY — studies show creativity can help people feel happier and healthier. By providing positive, playful, surprising and fun experiences, we do little things to brighten people’s lives.
