Welcoming Indianapolis

Welcoming Indianapolis Welcoming Indianapolis is a city-wide initiative, whose goal it is to promote mutual respect and coo We are all Hoosiers, and Indianapolis is our home!

Welcoming Indianapolis, a project of the Immigrant Welcome Center, is an affiliate of the national grassroots-driven program, Welcoming America. The shared goal is to reduce anxieties and concerns that exist within receiving communities when newcomers (or foreign-born) move in. By doing this, we can help create "welcoming communities" that allow for better integration of new community members, and

if all members of a community understand one another and work together, the community as a whole is better able to thrive. We utilize a new approach, developed by Welcoming America which focuses on addressing the fears and concerns that native-born Hoosiers often have in response to the rapid growth of the local immigrant population in many of our changing neighborhoods. We can help reduce some of these barriers that often prevent entire-neighborhood collaboration to allow for full community integration. We are currently working within four local neighborhoods: Nora, Southport, Lafayette Square, and the Near West.
