Save the date: NAMI Indiana’s 21st annual Mental Health and Criminal Justice Summit takes place on March 8. Topics include utilizing certified peers across the crisis continuum, Sharing Your Story with Law Enforcement, Clinician-led mobile crisis teams, juvenile competency restoration, The Living Room model, Assisted Outpatient Treatment, jail & community navigators, Sequential Intercept Model mapping, and more. NAMI Indiana wants to thank the Noble County stakeholders who participated in a Sequential Intercept Model mapping workshop. Amazing things can happen when you get dedicated individuals in the same room for a day and a half to identify priorities and develop an action plan to improve systems.

NAMI Indiana facilitated our first Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) mapping workshop in Shelby County. Stakeholders in crisis response, law enforcement, criminal justice, and individuals with lived experience identified gaps and strengths in their systems and identified priorities for change.

NAMI Indiana has long been the state’s subject matter expert on Crisis Intervention Team program development. We’re glad to also be the state’s leader on SIM mapping.

Some counties are looking for new ways to improve interactions between law enforcement and people experiencing a mental health crisis. The National Alliance on Mental Illness is coordinating with local advisory councils to provide crisis intervention training and resource mapping.
