Voters decide elections as every voter should be able to make their voice heard. Policies that limit access to voting, like mail-in ballots, risk leaving people out and weakening that promise. We all have a role in protecting the freedom to vote.

We decide our future. This story is evolving. Voting rights groups have filed lawsuits seeking to block this executive action aimed at limiting voting by mail ahead of the midterm elections. We’ll continue to keep you informed.

Indiana is ranked #1 in the nation for foreclosures. It’s an embarrassing statistic as behind every foreclosure is a family or story of people stretching every dollar to cover the basics.

Wages aren’t keeping up, but the cost of everything else is. Housing, utilities, insurance, groceries, gas prices.. are all rising.

More Hoosiers are relying on credit cards. Savings are shrinking. And when one thing goes wrong, there’s no safety net left. And without a financial cushion, even a small setback can put a home at risk.

Homeownership is arguably as fragile as it’s been in some time. But right now, for too many working Hoosier families, it is. Click the link in our bio to learn more.

Indiana just got paid big for housing ICE detainees, more than three times more than before funded by your tax dollars. But what are we funding, and at what cost?

Federal payments to the state for holding immigrant detainees at the Miami Correctional Facility more than tripled recently. Now nearly $4M for just one month of beds, far above earlier rates. Despite them claiming it won’t cost taxpayers, the facility is already packed, and people are stuck inside with no transparency.
In a time when every penny counts in this economy, many Hoosiers recognize that this shouldn’t be a priority.

Gas prices in Indiana are climbing fast! As the war involving Iran escalates, global oil markets are reacting, pushing crude prices above $100 per barrel and driving up costs at the pump.

And Indiana is feeling it more than most. Hoosiers saw the largest gas price jump in the Midwest, with some areas increasing nearly 50 cents in just one week. Right now, the statewide average sits around $3.48 per gallon, according to AAA, about 75 cents higher than last month.

Higher gas prices don’t just hit the pump. They often push up the cost of groceries, shipping, and everyday essentials too. For Hoosiers already feeling squeezed by rising costs, spikes like this add up fast.

It’s clear, nobody likes data centers. Here’s why communities, from Indianapolis to statehouses across the country, are pushing back.

Lawmakers in 11+ states are introducing bills that would temporarily ban new data centers or pause approvals altogether as lawmakers study their impacts and for good reason. That’s according to watchdog group Good Jobs First.

Air & water pollution, noise & health impacts, higher energy bills for Hoosiers, huge tax breaks for wealthy corporations, few local jobs after construction is complete.

These massive facilities aren’t simply “tech buildings” as they’re straining our communities and the environment. It’s time we asked: Who really benefits?

Recently, a judge ruled that Indiana cannot enforce its near-total abortion ban against people whose religious beliefs support access to abortion. The court found the ban places a “substantial burden” on religious freedom protected by Indiana law. While this is a victory, the fight isn’t over. Indiana’s Attorney General has already appealed the ruling, meaning the case will continue in the Court of Appeals.

What this means for Hoosiers:
• Indiana still has one of the strictest abortion bans in the country.
• This ruling protects some people whose religious beliefs support abortion access.
• The legal battle over reproductive rights in Indiana is ongoing.

Lawmakers promised affordability. Did the 2026 session deliver? Not really.

After months of debate at the Indiana General Assembly, many of the biggest affordability challenges Hoosiers face remain unresolved. Here’s what happened:

Stricter rules for health care. Lawmakers passed legislation tightening eligibility and verification requirements for programs like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid, programs many families rely on for food and health care.
Childcare relief stalled. Thousands of Indiana families remain on the waitlist for assistance, and lawmakers did not approve of major new funding or vouchers to help them afford care.

Everyday costs keep rising. From utilities to housing to groceries, Hoosiers continue facing higher bills, but the session ended without sweeping policies aimed at lowering those costs.

Promises vs. outcomes. Affordability was a major talking point this year, but many of the bills passed focused on restrictions rather than expanding support for working families.

The parent company of AES Indiana, which serves more than 500,000 Hoosiers, is being bought in a $33 billion deal led by BlackRock and other private investment firms.

This means the company will go private, shifting control from public shareholders to investment groups. AES Indiana will still be regulated by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, meaning rate increases must still be approved. But private ownership often means a stronger focus on delivering returns to investors.

Indiana already has some of the highest electricity costs in the Midwest –a trend linked to rapid growth in energy-intensive industries like data centers and AI infrastructure being attracted to our state. The acquisition puts private investment interests in a utility that Hoosiers already feel is charging too much, and at a time when the state utility commission is launching an investigation into affordability and transparency of energy bills across major utilities, including AES Indiana.

Energy rates are rapidly becoming unaffordable for Hoosiers. And we need real answers. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission is hosting a public inquiry on energy affordability to question utility providers and dig into why Hoosiers are strapped with skyrocketing bills. This public meeting starts at 9:45 a.m. on March 24 at the PNC Center, located at 101 W. Washington Street in downtown Indianapolis.

Many Hoosier households have seen utility bills spike double-digit percentages in recent years according to a study conducted by Citizens Action Coalition. Across Indiana, families have seen electric bills jump double digits, with some estimates showing average increases of more than 17%, or roughly $25–$50 more in only one year. Meanwhile, growing demand from massive data centers and large industrial users is adding even more strain to our grid, and too often, everyday ratepayers are left footing the bill.

Indiana lawmakers recently added a late amendment to a bill that would significantly change early voting timelines, without a public hearing.

If enacted, the proposal would reduce Indiana’s early voting period from 28 days to 16 days, nearly cutting the available time in half. Supporters say the change could save counties money and simplify election administration, while opponents raise concerns about how shorter timelines will affect access, especially for working Hoosiers, caregivers, and those with limited flexibility.

Early voting has grown in recent years, with nearly one-third of Indiana voters casting ballots early in the 2024 general election, and the state historically ranking near the bottom nationally for voter participation.
