Alpha Mu Omega Chapter

Alpha Mu Omega Chapter AMO is the first graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. founded in Indianapolis, IN. Louis, Missouri.
(1)

Alpha Mu Omega Chapter chapter has a rich heritage of women making a difference in the Indianapolis community and internationally in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. In 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority became America's first Greek-letter organization established by Black college women. Her roots date back to Howard University, Washington, D.C., where the idea for formation was conceived by Ethel Hedgem

an Lyle of St. After her incorporation as a perpetual body in 1913, Alpha Kappa Alpha gradually branched out and became the channel through which selected college-trained women improved the socioeconomic conditions in their city, state, nation, and the world. Currently over 615 Alpha Kappa Alpha women call Alpha Mu Omega their home chapter. Having an engaged membership of that size has helped us serve the Indianapolis community effectively for over 93 years. Our chapter membership represents every facet of the Indianapolis community - to name a few - we are educators, business women, lawyers, doctors, theologians and homemakers. Alpha Mu Omega is home to two (2) Diamond Members (at least 75 years of service) and many Pearl (65-74 years of service) and Golden Members (between 50 – 64 years of service). In addition to dedicated life-long members, we have 56 members who were initiated most recently in Fall 2021. This great diversity of our chapter helps to foster strong and sincere bonds of sisterhood.

Moving for Mental Health & Wellness✨

The ladies of Alpha Mu Omega Chapter joined the men of Alpha Phi Alpha for the “Join the Movement” Hike as part of the AlphaPhit and PrettyPhit initiative at Eagle Creek Park.

The evening focused on physical health, mental wellness, and strengthening community connections. Together, we embraced the opportunity to move our bodies, clear our minds, and prioritize our overall well-being.

Mental health matters. Physical health matters. Community matters.

Thank you to everyone who joined us as we took steps toward healthier lifestyles and meaningful connections. Let’s continue to encourage one another to stay active, support mental wellness, and keep the movement going!

💚🩷 Double the Walks. Double the Impact. 💚🩷

Please join the ladies of Alpha Mu Omega Chapter as we partner with the men of Alpha Phi Alpha for not one, but TWO meaningful walks on Saturday, June 6th!

🚶🏾‍♀️ Sickle Cell Walk
🚶🏾‍♂️ NAMI Walk

These causes mean so much to us as a chapter and to our community. Together, we will walk to raise awareness, show support, and learn more about the important work both organizations are doing.

We invite all sisters, brothers, family, and friends to come out and walk with us as we support health, wellness, advocacy, and community impact.

Let’s show up, walk with purpose, and make a difference together! 💚🩷

💚💗 May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💗💚

As we close out Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to sincerely thank all of the members of Alpha Mu Omega Chapter who courageously shared their personal journeys throughout our series. Your honesty, vulnerability, and strength created space for healing, understanding, and support within our sisterhood and community.

We are especially honored to feature Sister Nova Govan in this final post as she shares her powerful story. Her voice, along with the voices of every sister who participated this month, reminds us that none of us are alone and that there is strength in sharing, listening, and uplifting one another.

It is our hope that these stories have encouraged someone, helped someone feel seen, or reminded someone to keep going. 💕

✨ Final Mental Health Tip of the Week:
Continue checking in on yourself and those around you. A simple conversation, moment of rest, or act of kindness can make a meaningful difference in someone’s mental health journey.

Thank you for watching, supporting, sharing, and helping us continue the conversation surrounding mental health and wellness. 💗💚

Kicking off the 2026–2027 Rosebud Cohort with big energy and even bigger smiles! Our 28 Rosebuds and their parents came together on May 16 for orientation, brunch, and some seriously fun bonding. From “Who Knows Each Other Best?” to the always‑chaotic “What’s in That Bag?”, the games did not disappoint!

We’re thrilled to welcome Rosebuds from 13 schools—4 private and 9 public—with 15 freshmen and 13 sophomores ready to blossom this year. With 19 participants proudly representing Greek affiliations, this cohort is full of charm, talent, and excitement.

Here’s to an amazing year of growth, sisterhood, and unforgettable moments!

💚🩷 May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🩷💚

This month, we are creating space for real conversations, healing, and support. Each Monday, we will feature a Sister for as she courageously shares her personal journey and testimony about how mental health has impacted her life.

As we continue into our third week of Mental Health Monday we are honored to feature Sister Marta Bell, who is sharing her powerful story. Her voice is a reminder that none of us are alone and that there is strength in sharing and supporting one another.

✨ Mental Health Tip of the Week: Make time for something that brings you peace and joy, even if it’s just for a few minutes each day. Whether it’s listening to music, taking a walk, journaling, or resting, caring for yourself is an important part of maintaining your mental wellness.

Be sure to watch, like, and share to help us uplift and encourage others.
