CICF is hiring a Controller.
This role oversees accounting, audit, tax, and financial reporting for CICF and its foundation partners (Hamilton County Community Foundation, the Indianapolis Foundation, and Women’s Foundation of Indiana) along with other supporting organizations. The Controller leads day-to-day accounting operations, ensures compliance across audit and tax requirements, and provides financial insight that supports decision-making for our boards and leadership team.
Key areas include managing financial reporting and the general ledger across multiple entities, leading budget development, strengthening internal controls, overseeing audit prep and tax filings, and supporting donor/fund needs including complex gifts.

“Because of these scholarships, I was able to attend college and get my Accounting degree without paying a penny from my pocket. That allowed me to save up while working during college. Then, I got accepted at an internship at a bank which led to a full-time position once I finished school. This helped me achieve my dream: become a homeowner, providing for my son as a single mother. Thank you! You have no idea the impact you’re making in students’ lives.” Mariana Alvarez Nunez

This is what scholarship funds make possible: less financial pressure, more focus, and a clearer path forward.

Scholarships at CICF exist because generous community members establish funds to support students. In the 2024-2025 school year, CICF fundholders awarded 76 scholarships totaling $879,400.

Hunger in Central Indiana demands a regional response.

Food insecurity is not isolated to one neighborhood or one population. The latest findings reinforce what many organizations see every day: solutions require collaboration across counties, sectors, and systems.

CICF’s scholarships team is leading the review of more than 4,800 applications through the annual scholarship round administered by CICF on behalf of fundholders of CICF, Hamilton County Community Foundation, and the Indianapolis Foundation. Applications have increased 96% since 2022. In our latest article, CICF presents what education trends could mean for Central Indiana’s workforce, families, and long-term prosperity.

As financial resources tighten, donors’ attention naturally turns to what feels most immediate – food, housing, and health, for example. That can leave parks, trails, public spaces and neighborhood beautification feeling secondary or, even worse, indulgent. But research says it should still be a...

"How can we spark generosity in our own lives and throughout our region?"

That was the question at-hand at last week's TEDxIndianapolis Salon, “Generosity for a New Era,” hosted in partnership with CICF.

Participants were asked to write down some of their takeaways from the event. Here's a few responses that stood out to us:

-“What if we looked at philanthropy as a ‘kindness map’ to visibly show how generosity works across the region: who is giving, where you can help, and celebrate the small acts of generosity and large gifts?
-“Provide childcare to one struggling mom.”
-“Instead of a ‘Tupperware party,’ hold a ‘generosity party.’ Invite a group of friends for cocktails and discuss acts of generosity. Then challenge all of the guest to hold their own generosity party and pay it forward.”
-“Improved press/media coverage of philanthropy to shift the general population’s education and awareness of community and giving.”
-“Commit to hosting nonprofit leaders on our podcast that features brands making an impact.”
-“Streamline reporting requirements for grantees—using AI tools to make reporting and reviewing easier.”

Data from the State of Aging Report will be the focus of tomorrow’s virtual conversation. The report was commissioned by the Central Indiana Senior Fund, a fund of CICF, to help our region better understand the unique and diverse needs of older adults.

Join CISF, WFYI Indianapolis, and The Polis Center virtually tomorrow for The State of Mental Health of Older Adults in Central Indiana. We’ll dig into what the data and community insights are showing about isolation, access to care, and well-being later in life, and what it means for the organizations and communities working alongside older adults every day. Robin Elmerick, CICF’s Sr. Director of Effective Philanthropy, will be one of the speakers.

If your work touches aging, health, housing, food access, or community connection, we hope you'll join. https://savi.org/event/the-state-of-mental-health-of-older-adults-in-central-indiana/?fbclid=IwY2xjawR6yTRleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFCU085M2dEVHFrMUl0a2lvc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHogGCVugVMNDpYaMHoUR_79A5NWI1O6BPNIopf_xvFbBktAE6NoxHSFwCTav_aem_1Bgsjsm5ZVrJHoWnLekXKw

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we're highlighting the mental health needs of older adults, an often-overlooked group as Indiana’s aging population continues to grow.

Join the State of Aging in Central Indiana Report discussion as we explore mental health trends among adults 60+, including social isolation, depression, su***de risk, crisis events, and access to care. The event will also highlight promising approaches that support well-being later in life.

We have BIG news! Charitable Advisors is officially joining the Central Indiana Community Foundation family!

Jennifer Bartenbach, CEO of CICF says: “Strong communities require strong nonprofits. That includes more consistent services, support for residents, and greater capacity to respond when needs rise. Charitable Advisors has built a trusted platform that helps nonprofit leaders access the information, talent and relationships they need to lead strong organizations. Bringing that work into CICF strengthens a critical part of Central Indiana’s civic infrastructure.”

Bryan Orander, founder and Executive Director of Charitable Advisors says: “When my daughters were young and asked about my work, I told them Charitable Advisors helps the people who help people. That doesn’t change. Joining CICF gives us the capacity to build on that foundation, turn more ideas into action and strengthen the support system for the organizations serving Indiana communities every day.”
