🦦❤️ FERRETS & YOUNG CHILDREN: CLARIFYING OUR AGE REQUIREMENT ❤️🦦

We often receive questions about why Five Points Ferret Refuge has an age requirement for children in adoptive homes, so we want to explain the reasoning behind it.

Ferrets are small, energetic, curious animals who require gentle handling and an understanding of their unique behaviors. They can nip during play, move quickly, and become frightened or defensive if they are grabbed, squeezed, chased, or handled inappropriately.

For these reasons, Five Points Ferret Refuge does not place ferrets in homes with children under 8 years old.

This isn't because we believe young children can't love or enjoy animals. ❤️ It's because ferrets have specific needs, and we have a responsibility to make adoption decisions based on the safety and well-being of the ferret.

👧🦦 Why does age matter?

Younger children may not yet have the ability to consistently:

• Recognize when a ferret needs space
• Handle a ferret gently and appropriately
• Understand that playful nipping is different from aggression
• Follow safety instructions every time
• Recognize when an animal is becoming stressed or uncomfortable

Even with excellent parental supervision, accidents can happen. A small ferret can also be injured very easily by an accidental drop, squeeze, or rough interaction.

👀 And yes, supervision still matters!

Our age requirement does not mean that older children should be left unsupervised with ferrets. Children should always interact with ferrets appropriately and under responsible adult supervision.

Ultimately, the adult is responsible for the ferret's care, safety, and well-being.

🏠 Our goal is successful adoption—not simply adoption.

We know families have many different circumstances, and we understand that an age requirement may sometimes be disappointing. But every ferret deserves a home where their individual needs can be understood and respected.

Our policies are designed to protect the animals in our care and help ensure that the families who adopt from us are prepared for the realities of ferret ownership.

Meet **Clarice & Starling**, our newest spooky-season duo at Five Points Ferret Refuge! These young girls have plenty of playful energy and are ready to investigate everything their little paws can get into. No mystery goes unexplored when these two are on the case! 🕵️‍♀️🐾

We don’t know their exact ages just yet, but we do know they’re young, playful, and full of personality. They love to keep busy, and there’s never a dull moment when these girls are around!

🦇 **A little warning from the crime scene:** Clarice and Starling are biters, so they’ll need a home with **experienced ferret owners** who understand ferret behavior and are comfortable working patiently with girls who still need to learn some better manners. These two need someone who can look past their sharp little chompers and help them grow into their best ferret selves. 🧡

With the right experience, patience, and understanding, we’re hopeful these mischievous girls can continue learning and thriving in a home of their own.

Mason is believed to be around **4–5 years old**, and he’s got plenty of playful energy left in him! He loves to run, explore, and especially **play with other ferrets**. If there are friends around ready to romp and wrestle, Mason is happy to join the fun! 🐾💕

While Mason has experienced a loss, we know there are still plenty of happy days ahead for this sweet boy. He deserves a home where he can feel loved, make new friends, and enjoy all the fun and mischief a ferret’s life has to offer. ❤️

Meet Chopper, Olive & Nami, our famous Five Points “triplets”! These adorable girls are between 1–2 years old and are full of youthful energy, curiosity, and a talent for turning an ordinary day into a ferret-sized Halloween adventure. 🎃

🧡 **Their favorite tricks?** Exploring, investigating, chasing each other around, and finding new ways to get into a little mischief!

💤 **Nami’s special talent?** Being a professional tube sleeper! While her sisters are busy investigating the haunted house, Nami may decide the coziest place to be is curled up inside a tube, catching some spooky-season Zzzs. 👻💤

Nyra loves exploring her surroundings and keeping herself entertained. One of her absolute favorite activities? Her wheel! 🛞 This girl is ready to spin her way through spooky season, and we suspect she could give a flying witch’s broomstick a run for its money! 😂💨

Nyra prefers to be the one and only ferret in her home! She doesn’t enjoy the company of other ferrets, so she’ll need a family where she can be the star of the show and soak up all the attention herself. No other ferrets required — just a loving human who appreciates her independent spirit!

Nyra is currently finishing up her vaccines and will be available for adoption once her vaccine requirements are complete. 🎃

🎃👻 **Bear & Panda — One Little Houdini and One Cuddle Bug!** 🐻🐼

We have two new faces at Five Points Ferret Refuge, and these two are bringing a little Halloween mischief and a whole lot of sweetness! 🦦💕 Please help us welcome Bear & Panda!

Bear is a champagne-colored girl between 1–2 years old, and Panda is a handsome 2-year-old roan boy. These two are a bonded pair, and we’re still learning all the things that make them special.

🚨 **CAUTION: ESCAPE ARTIST ON THE LOOSE… ALMOST!** 😂

Bear has apparently decided that the grass is always greener on the other side of the enclosure! This clever little Houdini loves looking for opportunities to investigate what’s happening beyond her current accommodations. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this sneaky girl because we suspect she has a few tricks up her sleeve! 🔐🎃

But don’t let Bear’s mischievous ways fool you into thinking this duo is all trouble! **Panda is an absolute sweetheart!** ❤️ This loving boy enjoys being held and soaking up affection. If you’re looking for a little cuddle bug to melt your heart, Panda might just be your guy!

Panda has also received an implant after showing very early signs of adrenal disease. We’ll continue monitoring him and providing the care he needs as he settles into life at Five Points.

We’re still getting to know these two, and we’ll share updates as we learn more about their personalities, favorite activities, and adorable little quirks.

These little outlaws are **EXTREMELY PLAYFUL!** 😂 They’re ready to turn every day into an adventure, and we suspect their idea of a perfect Halloween involves plenty of zoomies, mischief, and maybe a little candy-corn-colored chaos! 🍬🎃

We’re still getting to know these two, so there’s plenty more to discover about their personalities, favorite activities, and all the adorable quirks that make them special.

🖤 Marley is a handsome 4-year-old sable boy, and 🤍 Mirah is a beautiful 4-year-old albino girl. These two little Halloween explorers are already busy investigating their new surroundings, checking out new people, and satisfying their curious little noses!

So far, we’ve discovered that Marley and Mirah are **playful, curious, and very interested in meeting people!** 👀 You know what they say… curiosity is what gets the goblins into trouble! 😂🎃 We can’t wait to see what other adorable surprises these two have in store for us.

Since they’re still new to the refuge, we’ll be spending time learning more about their personalities, favorite activities, and all the little quirks that make them uniquely Marley and Mirah.
