Servants at Work, Inc. Building ramps for our neighbors in need. Volunteer-driven, faith-based, community-supported 501(C)3

SAWs, founded by Rik Hagarty in 2003 as a mission of Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, IN, expanded in 2005 when St. Luke’s United Methodist Church joined the mission. Since then, we've grown to serve communities across Indiana. In 2011, SAWs became a 501(c)3 charitable organization, known as Servants At Work, Inc. We build ramps for individuals using wheelchairs, scooters, or walkers, helping them overcome obstacles at their front door. Our work is guided by the belief in accessibility for all, inspired by Isaiah 42:6, "...You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons."

“Such a beautiful day in many ways.”

That’s how SAWs volunteer Walt described today’s ramp build for Debra, and we couldn’t agree more. After eight years of building with SAWs, Walt called today’s build one of the smoothest yet, thanks to an incredible crew and some outstanding teamwork.

We’re grateful for every volunteer who showed up, worked together, and helped make Debra’s home more accessible today.

Join us live for Behind the Ramp, a special look at what happens before, during and after a SAWs ramp build.

You see the finished ramps. Now come behind the scenes to see what it takes to make them happen.

SAWs Executive Director Tim Thurston will share what’s happening across the organization, what we’re learning as we grow, and what’s ahead. We’ll also share stories from the people at the heart of our mission and give you a sneak peek at new SAWs videos currently in production.

The team showed up ready to build on Friday and had a brand-new accessibility ramp finished by 12:30!

This crew worked together and finished ahead of schedule. Our Project Manager Scott said it best: “Highest compliments to the Colby team!”
Thank you, Colby, for giving your time and teamwork to create safe access and greater independence for our neighbor. Well done, Team Colby!

THANK YOU to everyone who made Ramp-a-thon 2026 possible!
To our incredible volunteers who worked hard and gave their time, and to everyone who donated, shared our posts, and cheered us on: thank you!

Because of you, more of our neighbors now have safe access to their homes and greater freedom and independence in their daily lives.

We are so grateful for every person, church, business, and community partner who helped make this week a success. You showed what can happen when a community comes together for its neighbors.
